Snorkelling at leisure on the paradise island of Meeru, I was speedily shifted out of my romantic dream by a pair of massive eyes staring intently at me under the clear blue water! My brain quickly shifted into gear as this uncomfortable first encounter was followed up by manic flapping and sand being churned up from the seabed. No it wasnt my new hubby lovingly looking into my eyes, but a less attractive sting or manta ray who was not impressed by my unwelcome presence! What can I say, I shrieked loudly and swam for my life! This was just one of the amazing experiences I take with me from my fantastic honeymoon on the Maldivian island of Meeru. ... Meeru or Meerufenfushi to give it its full name is a beautiful island in the Maldives. My wife and I were lucky enough to have visited this island for our Honeymoon in 2005. The only way to describe this place is heaven on earth. From the white sandy beach to the clear blue water you cannot help but fall in love with this place. We took a direct flight from Manchester to Mali (Maldives capital) which took around 10 and a half hours. This was followed by a speedboat transfer to our island. Meeru, however is a place that I find myself thinking about more and more often. Me and my new husband went on our honeymoon to Meeru last September. My husband is a keen (advanced) open water diver, and I gained my open water PADI before we went with the aim to do some dives while we were out there. We flew from Gatwick with First Choice to Male airport, the flight was about 10 hours, and was pretty comfy (as ... Read the complete review

I have always wanted to visit the Maldives, the place of beauty, dreams, romance, love and relaxation. After researching many web-sites and travel books I booked Meeru Island Resort. The whole island is your resort which is approx 1hr by speedboat from Male Airport, or you can fly by seaplane in approx 10 min. When you land at Male you are speedily taken through customs etc to a cafe just outside the airport doors. The heat hits you and the excitement builds even more as you wait for your boat to take you to the island. The sea trip passes quite quickly as you watch other islands go by and if you are lucky you may see some dolphins or at least a flying fish ... Read the complete review
