Advantages: Central Location, Beautiful Views, Fantastic Service
Disadvantages: Egypt can be VERY hot!
I have been to Egypt twice, and am shortly going for my third visit. On both occasions that I have been there, I have stayed in the Mercure Coralia hotel,Luxor, often locally referred to as the Etap. Centrally located opposite the Nile and ajoined by bazaars, the hotel is the perfect base for exploring the many wonderous sights of Egypt. With over 300 rooms in either the main building or garden courtyard, it is a large hotel but despite the size and number of guests, the service is second to none. Upon arrival expect a welcome drink and an quick guide to where everything is. The hotel boasts a bar, small disco with entertainment, a coffee shop, bistro, poolside bar, Italian restaruant as well as the main restaraunt on the mezzanine level. All of the food and drink is fatastic and althogh dearer than you would pay in a street cafe, is still excellent value for money. As well as a pool the gardens also feature tennis courts, bowling area, lazy corner with hammocks to truly relax, a childrens play are and beautiful plants and flowers of all descriptions. The staff truly make your visit a fantastic time, nothing is too much trouble, and as they get to know you, expect to be treated like a friend, they will share a joke and ask you how your day has been( and be genuinely interested in what you have to say!) With the famous Luxor temple only five minutes walk away and overlooking the Nile, it may not be the most exlusive of hotels in Luxor, but in my opnion it is the best situated, and having visited other hotels for meals and drinks it is certainly second to none in terms of service and standards and service. Daily activities are organised, such as pool volley-ball, cooking demonstrations by the pool, outdoor darts, table-tennis e.t.c all free of charge. It really is a home from home so if you intend to visit Luxor and want a fantastic time that doesn't cost a fortune, the choose th
is hotel.

- 29/06/02 Hi Steve,
Thankyou so much for your review of the Mercure Hotel. My husband and I are going there on September 30th and are greatly looking forward to a trip we've been hoping to go on for years!
Your description of the hotel was very informative and I always prefer personal recommendations to the blurb in a brochure.
We are looking forward to it even more now that you rated the hotel so highly.
Many thanks.
