Advantages: Lovely relaxing hotel with good food and facilities

Disadvantages: Pushy doormen trying to sell you taxi services

I stayed at the Movenpick Resort in June 2009 for 3 nights and very much enjoyed it.

I was slightly concerned when we first arrived as we seemed to be quite long way out of Cairo city centre, and I was worried it could get expensive going in and out to the city. However, being further away from Cairo man we were much closer to the pyramids, which was our first port of call on the trip. It only took about 10 minutes in a taxi to get there, and the taxis were so cheap we had a driver take us there and drive us around and back again for the whole morning for around £6.

The hotel itself was very nice, it's a series of bungalows around a garden like area where there were pools and tennis courts. It was a very peaceful and relaxing set up, which was nice in a crazy and busy city like Cairo. The rooms were very spacious and all came with their own terrace area. They were cleaned every day and kept absolutely immaculate.

The hotel restaurant was very nice, they served a buffet breakfast each morning, with freshly cooked omlettes and pancakes which was a nice addition. It was quite expensive to eat in for dinner however, although when we did it was very nice, so if you can get a good haf board deal it would be worth doing that. There are a selection of other restaurants in the hotel, which was good as there weren't many places to eat nearby.

The staff were in general very nice, however the doormen seemed to be responsible for a taxi service which was very expensive compared with local taxis outside. Because of this, they seemed very reluctant to let you out of the hotel without wanting to know where you were going, and why you didnt want one of their taxis. They didnt understand the concept of "just going for a walk" which was frsutrating. This was the only thing that let the hotel down which was a shame as other than that it was lovely.

Summary: A lovely hotel, shame about some members of staff

A good hotel right near the pyramids. The Thai restaurant is superb.
