Advantages: Great, clean rooms, with sea views from on high

Disadvantages: Not terribly much by way of shops / restaurants nearby

I have had some dreadful hotel experiences in my time - the selection of the hotel always has some element of holiday-Russian-roulette to it in my experience, since the pictures they show you of the rooms - certainly on the intenet rarely - if ever - bear the slightest resemblance to where you'll actually end up staying.

Let me say unequivocally that this was not the case with the Oasis Atlantic, which completely exceeded all expectations, and without a doubt is one of the nicest hotels of this type that I've ever stayed in. It is admittedly a massive complex, surrounded by like hotels. You will not be getting a taste of 'the real Madiera' (whatever that is) if you stay there, because it is, of course, part of a holiday resort. The rooms there are nicely appointed, bright, clean, and fresh, with beatuiful, spotlessly clean bathrooms. The breakfast buffet is quite good but if the buffet dinners don't always quite make the grade (in terms of quality - though there is of course as much of the stuff as you want), well, you can always eat out, can't you? Probably not in Canico, unless you have your own transport, as the actual town / village is some way up a steep hill from the tourist complex and too far I would say to walk, but there are a few acceptable cafes nearby (probably more open in high-seaon; we visited in January). There is a nice sea front walk / promenade running between the hotel - which is right by the sea as you see in the pics - and the beach (which is made of large rocks / boulders - and a bit too choppy perhaps - certainly in winter - for swimming), and if you follow it to the left (looking seawards) you'll come to a sandy / silty bay and harbour where you can go for a dip.

The grounds - particularly the greenery in front - have some interesting foliage and are nicely landscaped. This overall is a very nice place to stay during your Madeiran break.

Summary: Excellent resort choice for a Madeiran holiday

Could you expand this a bit more? Did you book a package? Approximately what did you pay? Any good for families?
