Advantages: Clean, Nice Staff.

Disadvantages: Water, Noise, No Facilities, Location.

Ok today on Katy’s holiday reviews is a bit of a worse story than I told you yesterday. I visited Corfu last week and as this was my first holiday abroad for just over two years you can imagine how excited I was and the same goes for my now fiancé Dave. When we arrives in Corfu we had hardly had any sleep due to having an early morning flight the night before so we were tired and fed up of traveling so we were looking forward to just getting to our apartment and having a lie down however what was actually awaiting us was another week of bad sleeps and much more and this is why I have no choice but to give Olive Grove Apartments just one star.

Location:
When we first arrived we noticed the location which was a bit different to anything we had ever seen on holiday before. The first thing we noticed was how far it was off the road which to be honest in the day light did not bother us too much but there were no street lamps by there so at night it was so dark so you had to walk through a totally dark patch to get to the apartments which as a young girl I have to watch out for. Then right by the hotel was a derelict house and some cars that had been bashed and then abandoned. One was almost crushed.

With regards to closeness to the bars and restaurants though I cannot fault it as it was two minutes away but I hated looking out at crushed cars every day. The apartments were situated a very short walk away to a nearby beach which was extremely small and not great sand and looked like sewage but the views at least were stunning.

Size:
To be fair the size was no too bad. It was a studio so everything apart from the bathroom was in one room. There was room for the beds and a kitchen table with two stools and there was a lot of cupboard space with a safety deposit box within easy reach. The bathroom was quite small but had just enough room for the shower, toilet and sink and also had a cabinet that you could keep your toiletries in.

Beds:
The next thing we noticed when we got to the apartments was that the beds were rock hard, seriously it was like lying on the floor with no give at all so there was no Dave throwing me onto the bed on that holiday! As well as the beds being hard and extremely uncomfortable the bedding that was provided was a bit short. We had one of those extremely thin sheets and then a thinner white sheet on top and then we were given those thin pillows you get on holiday. I knew I would need more stuff but then when I saw that you had to pay around €7 for each item I changed my mind as that would have been a big chunk of our holiday spending money gone on bedding. Instead we had to fold our towels and use them as pillows and then just try and stay warm in the night by lying still and keeping the sheets in one place.

Water:
Well we did actually get about one hours sleep but it was over the space of three as it was broken so much because the beds were that uncomfortable. When we woke up and we were hot and sticky from the plane and just generally in need of a good wake up we decided to take showers. This is when the next problem arose because when we put the shower on we noticed after five minutes it was not getting any warmer. We asked the people next door and they said they had no hot water either and it was because the water tank is heated by solar panels and the whole building operates it. What a nightmare as if you did not get the hot water while it was there you missed it and as we did not always have great weather then we had no hot water the entire stay resulting in cold showers all week which was horrible.

Noise:
The final thing about these apartments that is bad is the fact that they are so noisy. I think they must have the thinnest walls in history because we could hear exactly everything that next door were saying and doing. If they turned on a tap we could hear it and if they were just talking normally we could hear it. This resulted in us having extremely bad sleeps because unfortunately we were next door to some very young people who had just come on holiday to get drunk so they kept us up until about half 5 every morning.

The next thing about noise was what was coming from the bar in the actual apartment as it was so loud and continued into the early hours of the morning.

Facilities:
Facillities in the apartment were extremely basic. I have already mentioned the lack of bedding but there is no toaster, no iron and limited cutlery. No soap or novelty shampoos are provided and you will have to go and buy your own tea towels and washing up liquid and things like that.

Cleanliness:
The one thing I can say about these apartments was that they were extremely clean and the maid service was five times a week and she was lovely, always trying to teach us new Greek words. The towels and bedding were changed while we were there and she even folded up my pajamas for me on several occasions.

Balcony:
Also there was a small balcony which unfortunately because of where our apartment was situated we did not get much sunlight but it was still very pleasant to allow some fresh air into the room every now and again.

People:
The other thing I can say that is positive about the apartments is that the people who worked there were fantastic. I have already mentioned the maid but everybody who owned the place and worked in the bar were great and I cannot fault them one bit as to be honest not much of my problems they could help.

The Hotel Bar:
The bar was very clean and very airy with a complete open look onto the pool area. Everywhere where we stayed simply put down clear plastic sheets so everywhere was bright. The thing I liked about the bar was that there was a small bird’s nest in the corner which was sweet. The thing I hated about the bar was that although there was a lot of air, there was also a lot of smoke and because the bar was quite small you could not really sit there and have a smoke free drink at all.

The food in the bar was great and although we only had a pudding there which was pancakes with chocolate and bananas for those who are interested, everything we saw others order looked great.

Pool:
The pool is one that we did not go into at all during our holiday although not because of actually what it was like. It was of a decent size and from my memory actually did not run that deep but remember those drunken young people I told you about earlier well they were always there smoking and throwing each other in. me and my boyfriend cannot bear being in places where people smoke anyway and although it was in open air outside you could smell it all around the pool as there were so many people smoking. Throwing each other in I don’t mind but obviously not somewhere I wanted to relax. There were sun beds around the pool and plenty of them and the pool did get a lot of light.

Rep:
Our rep at the apartments was fantastic and I could not fault her. I think everyone that was staying there had a good deal with getting her and that the apartments should try to keep her there as long as possible as she made us feel a lot better about where we were staying.

So there you go, and to be honest I would not go and stay in these apartments again. I think that they are aimed at people who enjoy a lively night life and because me and Dave specified that we were not after that kind of apartment we were disappointed. I think if you don’t mind a lot of young, drunken people around you and having cold showers and bad sleeps then this place is for you.

Seriously guys if you want to know anything else about the apartments then let me know as this is my first ever hotel review. More holiday reviews coming soon.

Thanks for reading.

xxx

Hi, I came back from The Olive Grove Appartments a few days ago(stayed there from 19th June 2006-27th June 2006) and was very shocked to read such a bad review of it. Me and my boyfriend travel a lot and have stayed in a few dodgy places but I can honestly say that these appartments were great! I dis-agreed with most of the comments Katy made about the complex- The location was excellent- yes it was a bit off the main road but i found that this made the complex more enjoyable as you didnt get the noice off the main road. The patch of darkness you walk through to get to the appartments at night is totally safe as the owners of the appartments have another bar right to the side of this walkway and there are lots of people there. The owners Yani and Katerina are really nice and work long hours to make your holiday enjoyable and memorable. Yes the appartments are basic but that is what you have to expect when you go to Greece as all the appartments are that way. Everyone that we met there have been to the Olive Grove 3 and 4 times before because they like it so much and we ourselves are going back next year. Please don't be put off by Katy's review as we absolutely loved it there!

P.S- The photo above is not of the Olive Grove Sidari!

What a nightmare, I would have gone nuts not being able to get a decent sleep whilst on holiday, and after looking forward to it for so long, what a shame. Here's hoping your next holiday makes up for this one. Mil x
