Advantages: the service, food, people, setting and atmosphere

Disadvantages: very pricey

The Oriental hotel in Bagkok, Thailand is a remarkable hotel. i was lucky enough to see in the new year there, unfortunately it was the year of the tsunami, meaning what would have been a relativley congestion free hotel turned into a madhouse.
Despite having an extra 1000 or so guests at one days notice, the hotel coped remarkabley well apart from the swimming pool area, which became intolerable. It is however very difficult to see hyow this could have been negated in that area as it was in all others. Food was still brought promptly by the kitchens, all room cleaning was done in the alloted times and the new years meal was a superb spectacle, contributing to a very enjoyable night.
Bangkok is a wonderful, busy and crazy city but i have always found the oriental to offer a calm atmosphere within the storm.
The new years i spent there showcased exactly how a large establishment should cope with a massive and immediate increase in demand, expanding seamlessly in nearly all areas to accomodate the new influx of guests and ensure the current ones were not left feeling overlooked.
To sumarise, the Oriental Hotel in Bangkok, Thailand is a fantastic hotel mixing the charms of the orient with the comfort and convinience of a 5* hotel. The 5* it has are every bit deserved in all areas and i would whole heartedly recommend it to any traveller in bangkok

Summary: a fantastic hotel that offers everything 5* should but you do pay for it!
