Advantages: Location, right on the beach, variety of food and good service.

Disadvantages: Spa facilities expensive

This was our first visit to Lanzarote and after being delayed for 5 hours at Gatwick, my partner and I arrived at the Princess Yaiza Hotel at around midnight. We were met by the concierge and offered a glass of champagne while we checked in at reception. We were greeted by a lovely receptionist who told us that we had been upgraded to a junior suite!

Check-in only took about 10 minutes and our cases were taken to our room. The room was huge with a bath/shower room, dining area, sitting area, balcony, mini fridge and the biggest bed I have ever seen.

The view from the balcony was brilliant; we could see over the pool and see the neighbouring island of Fuerteventura.

Breakfast was served in three different themed restaurants and there was always room. Food was plentiful, there wasn't anything you couldn't get (including freshly fried chips), champagne and strawberries/cream were popular with many guests.

Whilst on site, you are able to charge any food/bar bills to your room, which is great fun, but we did lose track of what we spent. On departure settle your bill, but the bill is not itemised just says date and which bar you used, not necessarily the drink.

There are a number of restaurants on site, some of which are open to the public. The Tapas was our favourite and the staff were all really friendly.

The ice-cream parlour is a must (although I did put on 5lbs in 10 days). There hot chocolate is delicious. The Tapas, ice-cream parlour & Italian restaurant centre the main terrace where there is live music every night, so lovely for when you are eating your meal.

We stayed at the Yaiza at Easter 2009, so the weather was a bit sporadic, the pool were a bit too cold to swim in, the waiters provide a pool service and walk around the sun beds all day, so there is no reason to move.

There is a lot of evening entertainment, the main being in the huge conference looking venue.

Each night the evening maid turns the bed down and puts a chocolate on your pillow, some nights we were in bed at 10pm and so she would make sure she did our room first at 9pm, so thoughtful of her.

All the food we ate was fabulous. The hotel could not be better situated. Out if the hotel and turn right you reach the main resort with loads of bars and restaurants. Turn left and you will find the more exclusive marina sprinkled with fine restaurants in lovely locations.

The hotel is 2 seconds from the beach, you have to pay for sun beds and brollies but when we were there it was quite quiet. The hotel has spa facilities, but they were quite expensive. There was a Chinese girl on the beach that did massage and was fantastic!

Although we didn't have any children with us there were loads of activities for them, including a big indoor play area.

Summary: Brilliant hotel, truly luxurious!

I stayed just up the road from this hotel and I heard people say it was not worth the money they paid. Great review
