Advantages: Unashamed luxury
Disadvantages: It's a long way to visit
Raffles has already been reviewed. All I will add is that the hotel offers only suites, so don't go asking for a room hoping to stay on the cheap! Service is out of this world and significantly higher than other top hotels I have stayed in. Nothing is too much trouble. You room will be beautifully "turned down" before bedtime rght down to Raffles slippers and dressing gowns being left beside the enormous 6ft wide beds. The room furnishings are as you would expect. Two TVs - one in your room plus one in the lounge, music system with a selection of CDs etc. The enormous marbled bathroom and dressing room with gold (coloured?) add the finishing touches. Be prepared to dress smartly in the restaurants. Even though it's very warm, you will probably be turned away from the entrance if you are in shorts and flip-flops! It's very expensive - around £500 for two per night for dinner and breakfast, but for special occasions or those who don't worry about that sort of money, it's wonderful. Add a final touch of luxury though and take a limousine back to the airport for another £60 - about three times as much as a taxi!
