Advantages: Attached to the Airport and a high quality hotel.
Disadvantages: A few miles from the tourist areas.
I have stayed in this 1104 room hotel twice and would highly recommend it.
I have stayed in other hotels in Hong Kong, both budget and very expensive, but this is my favourite.
It was recognised by Business Traveller UK Magazine as the Best Airport Hotel in the World 2008. This I can vouch for given my own experiences when staying there.
Both times I flew to Hong Kong from London which is about a 13 hour flight so what was great is that the Regal Airport Hotel as the name suggests is actually built on to the Airport building.
Having collected my baggage and cleared customs I simply wheeled my baggage trolley to the front left corner of the airport lounge, swung left and on to an enclosed raised walk way which led right up to the hotel entrance. It was about 6 minutes of leisurely walking with my trolley and I arrived at the check in desk of the hotel. The staff were very friendly, helpful and spoke good English.
This was magnificent for me as the "door to door" travel time from my home in Kent was about 16 hours when adding on getting to Heathrow Airport, allowing time for check in and then baggage claim and customs at the Hong Kong end.
The hotel I believe is very new, about 5 years old, and although its exterior looks bland it is ultra modern and state of the art inside. There is absolutely zero sound from any planes etc and you would just not know when you are inside that you are near the airport at all.
The foyer is huge and spectacularly decorated with glass and artistic vertical water features. There are also some lovely bars and restaurants within and on the side of the foyer area and it has a lovely relaxing feel to it.
I booked the cheapest room available but it was still very stylish, smart, modern and comfortable with all the amenities you would expect of a 4 to 5 star hotel.
There are 6 restaurants within the hotel. It also caters for business meetings and for weddings.
The Regal brand is excellent and operates 8 hotels in the Hong Kong and Shanghai region. There is an Underground railway station inside the airport which takes just 5 minutes to walk to from the hotel and will get you easily anywhere on the underground network including into the business district or any of the other islands or regions of Hong Kong. I found travelling on the undergound very stress free, comfortable and felt very safe.
The Regal airport hotel is a must in my opinion if you are merely stopping over for a day or two and then getting on another flight to Australia or New Zealand or if you are on any kind of shortish stay in Hong Kong.
It would also be an obvious choice if you are going to Hong Kong and want to have business meetings.
It is of very good quality, reasonably priced for its level of excellence and of course attached to the airport itself.
These are some of the key features.
