The RIU Monica hotel is situated 800 metres from the centre of Nerja and separated from Playa de la Torrecilla beach only by the promenade. The hotel offers 257 guest rooms, most of them with front or partial sea view.
The pretty town of Nerja preserves style and atmosphere of traditional Andalusia. Life revolves around the Plaza de la Iglesia Square with its typical bars and restaurants. A photo opportunity not to be missed is the 'Balcony of Europe' with breathtaking views of the sea and inland mountain ranges.
Address: Playa de la Torrecilla
The Riu Monica hotel in Nerja is as are all the Riu hotels very clean and with spacious well appointed public areas. It is in an ideal position right on the pedestrian promanade, you couldn't get any closer to a beach in Nerja. It does seem to cater mainly for clients of Tui Travel ( Thomson and Portland in the UK) and it attracts a mixture of European nationalities. The food is well rated by many guests, you get a buffet at breakfast and dinner. The hotel does do 2 sittings for dinner, you can't just wander into the dining room when you want and you are allocated a table for your stay. This idea suits the more elderly age group who are attracted to the resort in the winter, but if you want a little more freedom for the time you eat your evening meal you may find this restrictive. Because of the hilly nature of Nerja the hotel entrance at street level is in fact 4 floors above the beach level, this means there are bedrooms above and below street level. It can also be confusing when you try and find the lifts to take you down to the outdoor pool and sunbathing area, they are there just not signed very well. The bedrooms again are clean and well appointed the hotel is what you expect for a 4 star rating. This is not the hotel or resort for the young wanting a 24 hour bar scene, Nerja isn't like that, but just behind the beach area is the old town of Nerja, so it's not just a concrete jungle.
