Advantages: pleasnantly themed, well priced restaurants and showrooms

Disadvantages: there were building works going on when I was last there

The Sahara hotel - at the North end of the strip, not for from the Stratosphere - is a place I've not stayed IN, but spent time AT.
Both of my visits to Vegas has seen me go over there and eat in their buffet. At around $5, the Breakfast Buffet - open till 3pm! - is terrific value. A lot of rubbish is talked about qualities of buffets, but I've eaten there during Comdex week, when the convention delegates crowd everywhere out, and did not have to queue too long. The buffet consists of traditional breakfast favourites, waffles, cereals, fruit, pastries, sausage/bacon etc - but as it's more of a 'brunch' i've even had an excellent Beef Stroganoff there at around 11-30am! Strange as it sounds, and in Vegas nothing seems 'strange' after a while, it was good. It was a nice relaxed atmosphere - the place is huge too giving you more the feeling of a canteen than restaurant - nothing like the sumptious bounty at Caesars for example.
I've also been to the Sahara showroom earlier this year to see the Amazing Jonathan. A manic comedy magician. The showroom has area seating and you get a perfect view wherever you are. Tickets are reasonably priced for all the shows I've seen advertised there and there is quite often money off discount vouchers available.
The hotel itself it having a new extension with a NASCAR Themed restaurant built - which should complement the Sahara Speedway in the hotel.
My impressions of the hotel are favourable. The Sahara theme isn't too overdone and with the new Motorsport theme added it appeals to a cross section of people I guess.
Good value - worth a try.
