Sandors On The Park, Launceston, Tasmania
Sandors on the Park are a 3 ˝ star hotel/motel. It isn't a huge hotel so you get that personal touch. They have 70 rooms a mixture of twin, double and family sized rooms. Inside has a licensed bar and a Monkey Bar café. The café is open for breakfast at 6am and closed at 9pm. Room service is available 7 days a week if you want it. Breakfast is not included in the price of the room so we did not eat breakfast in the hotel. In face we chose not to eat at all in the hotel. Double or twin costs $125 New Zealand Dollars. A double & single bedroom costs $135 New Zealand. One New Zealand dollar is equal to 0.385578 United Kingdom pounds.
The hotel is located in a central location opposite the City Park. It is about a 10-minute walk to the city centre. Close by is the Queen Victoria Museum, Inveresk Cultural Precinct, Cataract Gorge, Penny Royal Complex, the National Automobile Museum, AFL football stadium. We decided to walk to the Cataract Gorge, which took about 20 minutes to walk to from the hotel. I really enjoyed the Gorge and would recommend that if you have any extra time to go and see it. At reception you can book day tours and bus tours to various different place which will pick you up and leave you back to the hotel. Wine tours and river cruises are a couple of examples of the tours they provide.
**ROOM**
We stayed in a double room in this hotel. When I booked this hotel I wasn't expecting much. I had stayed in hostels for over a month so really anywhere with a toilet in the room was a luxury for me. I have to say though I was very pleased with the room. An ironing board and iron was in the corner if I had wished to use it (not that I did I was on my holidays!). There was a rather large table, which had a large mirror and a hair dryer in the cupboard. A small table was situated beside the window with two chairs if you wanted to sit down at a table. The view from our room was lovely as we could see the city park gardens. Facilities to make your own tea and coffee were available. I love sitting down after a busy day sightseeing and having a cup of tea. A bonus was that they also provided a biscuit to eat with your tea. If you got hungry there is a café downstairs or room service is available from 6am to 9pm. We walked about 15 minutes down the street and got a pizza. There was also a huge food court so you weren't stuck on choice. A rather large television was also available to watch it wasn't a plasma but it did its job well.
The bed was very comfortable and I got a lovely night sleep. Luckily enough they hadn't used too much starch in the sheets so I did not get a horrible itchy rash (starch for some reason irritates my skin, making me very itchy). The best part, which might sound silly, was that there was a nice clean bathroom and toilet. After staying in hostels where I had to share bathroom facilities I thought this was brilliant. The bathroom was very clean and crisp with white towel provided for you to use.
Other features in the room were a clock radio, which you could set to wake you up in the morning. It was the type of radio, which lit up showing you the time, which was handy. A telephone was in the room however I walked down the street to use a payphone, as it was considerably cheaper. A mini bar was in the room if you had of wanted anything out of it, we choose not to, as it would have been so expensive.
**GUEST SERVICES**
An airport shuttle service to and from the hotel was available upon request. They also could have ordered a taxi for you if you had of wanted. If you are travelling by car they have off street parking.
If laundry facilities are required or dry cleaning services they have these. I can not remember how much it cost but it wasn't too expensive.
I noticed that they cater for functions, conferencing and meetings. They even cater for weddings and special events.
**OVERALL**
I thought this place was nice. The staffs were helpful and friendly, prepared to answer any questions you had. It had sort of a homely feel to it. I think this may have been because it wasn't a huge hotel. Lots of trips were available and was easy to book if you had of wanted to. The rooms weren't extremely modern but they were clean which I think was the main thing. I only stayed here two nights and I really enjoyed my stay. There was no noisy neighbours or music to be heard. All in all it was a relaxing stay. The only think I do remember which wasn't the hotel's fault but I was walking back to the hotel from getting food and two people were fighting. It was dark by this stage and I seen a man hit a woman to the ground however the police were on hand straight away. It unsettled me slightly, if you do stay at this hotel which I do recommend I would advise you not go out walking after dark by yourself. This incident could have happened anywhere though we just happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. I do think the hotel and was worth the $125.
