Gecko Samui Resort ... aunt and uncle recommended the Gecko Resort for our stay in Ko Samui as they had previously stayed there on a trip to Thailand a few years ago and they knew the owners and said that the place was nice. The resort is in Bo Phut which is the nicest area of Ko Samui island. Due to the fact that it is the nicest town, accommodation isn t cheap here and mostly consists of 5* resorts. Gecko was one of the cheapest at 800 Baht a night for a double standard room (approximately £15). The resort itself isn t primarily for accommodation. Hotels in Penang ... the bus station in Penang (which is just a couple of minutes from the bridge from mainland Malaysia) it was no trouble getting a cab to our hotel as there were a load of drivers calling out at us to give us a ride. It took about 15 minutes from here to get to Hotel Mingood which is in the historical Georgetown (the main town in Penang). The drive is an interesting one taking you past what is typical Malaysia - a run down and falling apart shed with washing hanging up on a line outside and a dirty dog sleeping in the mud (hard to believe this is someone s home) whilst towering high above it is a huge billboard with a gorgeous man and woman sporting glittering jewell... Hotels in Koh Samui ... bay cottages and hotel. 5 Star resort hotel. This unique hotel is situated in its own private bay in the North East of Koh Samui with its own private beach in a natural cove. The selling point of this hotel is that it is built in natural surroundings without damaging any of the natural flora or fauna and is eco friendly. Each of the 61 cottages are dotted around the bay hidden amongst the foliage some even have trees growing through the balconies. There is also a block of 24 suites that are down nearer the beach.
