The best view of the park! (Tarangire Safari Lodge (Arusha, Tanzania))

Advantages: Beautiful 'back to nature' style of lodging

Disadvantages: Not as comfortable or 'safe' as other lodges

Even though this lodge was not the best in terms of accommodation and food, it certainly gets big points for the view which is simply stunning!
The accommodation is in permanent tents set off the ground, which are basic but very comfortable. Ours (No 10) consisted of a main area with two single beds and a dressing table, at the back of the tent behind a zipped doorway was the bathroom with toilet, shower, somewhere to hang clothes and a wash basin. The shower was one of the best we had with excellent pressure and nice and hot!
As you are inside the park boundaries animals can come and walk around, when we arrived we had a Dik Dik walk up to the front of our tent. You are not allowed to walk around at night on your own.
The dinner was OK, nothing to write home about but definitely edible. The restaurant and the seating area are all open air which was a nice touch.
There was a pool there but we didn't use it so I can't comment on what it was like, however while we were there we saw someone cleaning it so I assume it is well looked after.
They shut the power off at midnight at this place but they do give you a torch in case you need to walk about your tent after this time.
I found it very strange to sleep in a tent with all the animal noises around (and also the sound of someone snoring in the next tent!) but it was an experience I'm glad I took, however not one I'm sure I would do again. I was quite nervous of only having a canvass sheet between me and the animals which marred the experience slightly.
However, I would still recommend this place for the view if nothing else!
