      Very helpful

An OK hotel but lots of room for improvement

We stayed at this hotel on our half term holiday ski break.

The hotel is wonderfully located. Set back slightly from the main road that runs through the centre of the town and close to the Gamsleiten 6-seater chair lift. On the way back you can ski right to the boot room.

The Hotel has its own boot room where boots, ski's and boards can be stored safely. There is a 'wellness centre' which has a sauna, steam room, infrared room, jacuzzi and some fitness equipment. The restaurant is a little small and there is a small bar area.

      The room
We had a family suit which consisted of a master bedroom and then a living room. The setee in the room formed a single bed for our son. There was a separate bathroom and toilet. The bathroom only had a shower - which was fine for us but may not appeal to all.

      The bad points
The hotel obviously didn't have many English visitors as all the literature they provided was in German. Having selected it from the internet and not being the sort of person that expects everybody to be able to speak English, this wasn't too much of an issue. However on Saturday a large party of English tourists arrived - suddenly by Sunday the menu was in English whereas we had arrived on the Friday and no change had been made for us - we started to feel a little second class. This continued when they left as once again the menu reverted to German.

We tend to stay for 10 night compared to the standard 7 nights so we expect to have to fit in a little on the Friday and so we weren't surprised that our table in the restaurant changed on the saturday. However we didn't expect it to change again on the following Saturday. the table they gave us was totally unsuitable and we felt in the way - almost in the corridor. The explanation was "that they were very busy" however why we needed to be messed around again I couldn't understand. At least it was only for 2 nights.

The Restaurant could have been kept cleaner, the tables were sometimes dirty where food had been dropped and the base tablecloths were not changed when they were dirty - unless we changed tables - the top cloths were changed for each meal but I expected the base cloth to be changed if they were dirty.

The room service was adequate. The stocks of shower gel and shampoo were not replenished automatically - we had to ask and these often didn't appear until the following day. Leaving two small bottles didn't last long with three of us in the room wanting showers when got back from Skiing.

The bar did not have separate staff so if you came back from skiing and wanted a coffee the staff would have to stop laying the tables for the evening to serve you and there was no comfy seating area available - the seating area on the website is actually a table in the restaurant! This was also the same problem after your evening meal as the two waiting staff were dealing with the bar and the restaurant.

The hotel has the tag line on their website that they are the smallest 4 star hotel in Obertauern. The hotel was very friendly, but it is not the best four star hotel I have stayed in. The food was nice. There was a good variation as long as you weren't a vegatarian. The breakfasts did not have any hot elements - unless you could boiled eggs.

The hotel really needs to have a dedicated bar person and some sort of lounge in my opinion in order to qualify as a four star hotel. You need somewhere to relax that isn't your room and we ended up spending more time in our room than we would have liked.

I would certainly stay in obertauern again (see my resort review for more detail) but not at this hotel

The suite we had was 2472 Euros based on two adults and one child, with half board
