Advantages: lovely rooms, good breakfast
Disadvantages: poor management
I spent my wedding night at the Charles Street Inn and thus wish I could write a glowing review. But i'm afraid, like the reviewer before me, my thoughts are a bit of a mixed bag. Lets start with the positive:
The Charles street Inn is located on a quaint street in Boston MA. The building itself, and the rooms have a great deal of charm. Each room is indivudally decorated and is named after an artist or a writer. Interestingly enough, I stayed in the same room as did the reviewer before me, the Henry James room. It really is magnificent, such a lush, comfortable, old fashioned bed with a lovely canopy and a beautiful comforter. I thought the bathroom was a nice size (not in the same league as other hotels I've reviewed) but still roomy enough with spacious tub and shower. I loved the fireplace and the mantel and just about everything in terms of the room's decor. My husband and I really did feel as though we were staying where that talented writer had lived.
I actually have some nice things to say about the breakfast, which is included in the price of the room- I did not expect a full breakfast and was very happy with the quality of the scones and other baked goods. I thought it was romantic to have coffee in bed with my husband, in front of a roaring fire.
However. Please be advised, if you reserve a parking space, do not expect said reservation to be honored. My husband ending up driving around in his suit before the wedding, in the snow, looking for a parking garage even though we had email confirmation of the reservation. To top it off, the manager was quite rude and unhelpful about it. I was nearly in tears, standing there arguing with them in my wedding dress. When we returned home the next day I produced proof of the email confirmation and asked for re-imbursement for the parking garage. I received a nasty email in return, accusing us of stealing flower vases! We had ordered lilies and roses and took the flowers home in tissue paper but of course did not touch the vases. I was highly offended and shocked, to say the least and I admit, it puts a black mark on what otherwise would have been a lovely night's stay.
Important to note: I told my cousin in law about the Inn and he took his girlfriend just two weeks ago. The Charles Street Inn gave away their parking space as well. Yikes. Once is a mistake but for a little place like this…twice??
As to the price, well, its Boston. One can't do all that much better and in fact can do much worse then $250-500 a night. But at that price, or at any price for that matter, I'd rather not have someone else's mistake pushed off on me with false accusations. So we finished our honeymoon in disneyworld, where if any little thing is off, they fix it, apologize and send you an autographed picture of Mickey. Now thats my type of wedding night experience.
Summary: Didn't return for our one year anniversary

- 06/04/07 Oh dear, as a senior employee in a hotel I like to read about experiences at others, but accusing you of stealing the vases is something else indeed! (although a few people do on occasion..!) |
