Advantages: Cenrtral strip location
Disadvantages: Casino gets packed at the weekends.
My third stay at the Venetian hotel Las Vegas. It is high quality and like all the hotels in Las vegas spectacularly decorated and themed hotel based on venice with a canal that goes through the middle of the hotel and various squares restaurants and shopping malls.
I can recommend the Grand Lux cafe to eat which is just off the main casino area. Portions are absolutely huge so be warned and it is open 24 hours a day. There are cheaper eateries and also high end restaurants within the hotel.
There is madam Tussauds which is worth a visit and an art exhibition from the Guggenheim museum. You can find discount tickets in brochures which will knock a dollar or two off admission prices.
The resident entertainment is currently The Phantom of the opera which is spectacular and also the blueman group They have also got the Jersey Boys show which is quite good.
Gondola rides are available inside in the grande canal with seranading gondoliers or outside in the lagoon a bit cheesey but nice for some.
A big negative to the Venetian on my most recent visit is the time share touts that are now based in the hotel. We found the best way of avoiding them is not to give any eye contact and just walk straight past them and politely say no thank you.
Approaching the rooms you are met with security on the ground floor and you must show your room cards before being allowed to go into the lifts and i thought that the security was very good. The rooms are actually large suites. There is a very large bathroom in each suite with a walk in shower and very large bath tub and a small flat screen television.
The bed area has either a King or two queen beds which are very comfortable indeed a flat screen TV. Ample storage space for clothes in walk in closets.
Continuing into the lounge area there is a step down into the lounge area with a nice sitting area a small dining table a desk. The fridge and safe are hidden in an amoire. There is also another flat screen television here too. There is dial up internet or broadband internet for which there are quite hefty charges.
A panoramic window looks out either onto the strip or over pool areas or looking out to the surrounding mountains. Bearing in mind you will harldy be in your room it doesnt really matter about the view. Room service is ok although due to the size of the hotel can be a tad on the slow side.
House keeping is excellent and the rooms are kept spotlessly clean.
The casino area is quite large but on some of the tables the lowest bid can be from $10- $15 dollars minimum and on busy nights from $25. Its a shame that the slots only pay out coupons I miss the sound of clinking coins each time you have a win.
I have stayed in both the Venezia towers and the main building and there is little to distinguish between either. That being said I have stayed in other hotels on the strip and always gravitate back to the venetian and have always received excellent service.
I would recommend this hotel to everyone visiting Las Vegas. Deals are sometimes much better by booking direct with the hotel. Check out their web site. WWW.Venetian.com The only thing to remember is that it is quite amazing and very ornate and although the website is brilliant it does not prepare you for how vast this hotel is. Someone will have to pick your jaw up from the floor!!!
Summary: Good quality hotel rignt in the centre of the strip making it ideal for exploring the other hotels.

- 28/11/08 I saw a mind-boggling documentary once about the building of this hotel. I've not been, but I suspect I'd still prefer Venice itself. |
