Escape. Dine. Indulge. Relax. Re-connect.
You have not experienced a romantic getaway until you have visited The White Barn Inn. Even if you are not in striking distance, it is worth the trip. My husband took me for my 23rd birthday and though we probably won't be able to afford it again for another 5 years, I look back on it as just about the most romantic vacation of our relationship. It even rivals our honeymoon.
Located in Kennebuckport, Maine this retreat has the best combinations of large hotel and intimate bed and breakfast. The diners there are unparallel and have been written up in numerous travel magazines. Bring your platinum card because nothing comes cheap here but there is a good reason.
Why the White Barn?
The Rooms:
I don't think you can help but like it here, that is if you are willing to let go of the price and just enjoy. They offer regular rooms, which admittedly are tiny for their price, as well as suites and cottages. Fresh flowers are present in all rooms. All the rooms I've seen have been individually decorated, thus evoking the charm of a small Inn. But the amenities rival that of a large hotel- room service, valet service and laundry service, just to name a few. If you can bring yourself to shell out the cash, stay in the Loft suite. The decorations are lovely, the room is very spacious and the bathroom is the best of any hotel or Inn i have ever visited. It is entirely marble with heated floors, a huge steam shower with multiple jets for your back, your legs, etc and a Jacuzzi tub large enough to fit my husband, myself and all the bath toys i could ever want. Try not to be quite as blond as me and add 6 packages of bubble bath before turning on the jets. It was attack of the killer bubbles and i barely escaped. This was a very special occasion but the best bang for your buck is probably a junior suite. Still has the amazing bathroom, which i think is what makes these rooms truly special. Order breakfast for room service and your romantic room experience will be complete.
Dinner: I have never, never had a meal like this and I have traveled a lot around the US in addition to Italy. The dinning room is located in an old converted barn which adds charm and atmosphere. White linen numerous candles set the scene. With the extras the chef offered it was about 7 courses, delectable seafoods are my suggestion as you are in maine but there are choices for every palate. Keep in mind that it is a pre-fix menus so you will have limited options but my husband is a picky eater in many ways and did just fine, more than fine. The wine pairings, which do cost extra, are a must. I found myself simply adoring wines I thought I detested- its all about their taste combining with the flavors in the food. The service is impecable. If I got up, a new napkin was brought to me and folded and placed in my lap. The chair was pulled out for me. Bread is served from a gloriously large and diverse basket but bread servers to go from table to table. They sweep the room with every course. For those of you unfamiliar with this term, it means that each person at your table is served exactly at the same moment by different servers. Its almost like a dance. Dress up- jacket and tie at the least. I did think my martini was a bit over priced, $16 I believe, but it was large and well made and I assume they used top shelf gin.
Spa: Though I have yet to experience it, the spa is rumered to be fabulous. Next time I go, I fully intend on having a butler drawn bath. You choose from a variety of aromas and a butler arrives with candles and champagne and the romance begins.
Over all experience: Everywhere I went, i was greeted by staff with a 'happy birthday Mrs. Elliott or good evening Mrs. Elliott" Creepy? hehe, maybe, but I sure felt pampered. They upgraded us and were very kind even though we look rather young and most of their patrons are older with more extensive finances. The staff were also extremely helpful when we asked to explore the area and wanted lunch suggestions. In the afternoon, be sure to have tea in the parlor. The manager greeted us personally and the ports are excellent.
Summary: A Inn that drips with romance at every turn
