The Marcliffe at Pitfodels, Aberdeen: ... s only 5-star hotel is a real gem. Situated in its own 11-acre grounds on the outskirts of the city and run by proprietor Stewart Spence, it was opened in 1993 by Mikhail Gorbachev (strange choice). The hotel provides an excellent base for exploring the area - if you can afford to stay there! The hotel is relatively small, with 37 rooms and two suites - it also has six conference and banqueting rooms which c...

grahamt London Bridge Hotel London
... is very rare for us to stay in London. Really the only reason for us to do so is because of an event we are attending where driving home afterwards is definitely not a good idea. The usual reason is the company s Christmas Dinner and Dance and so it was this year. In the past the event has always been held around the Hyde Park area. It has been at the Royal Lancaster and the Grosvenor on Park Lane but even with “event” discounts I ve always felt them to be too expensive to stay in either hotel. We have always sought out more reasonable accommodation within a short distance but reasonable is a matter of some argument. In any case, hotels at this end of London have...

Delicate_Orchid1 Swissotel The Howard, London
... my partner s birthday last year, I decided we would spend a night in Central London in a classy hotel. I checked out lastminute.com and managed to find a superb deal: The 5 star rated Swissotel for £100 a night! This is about 75%cheaper than their usual rates. *Our experience* Check-in time is at 14:00, so to make the most of out stay, we got there about 14:45. We were greeted by very friendly staff at check-in. However, we were informed that our requested non-smoking room was not yet available. The gentleman checked us into a smoking room instead, stating, You can always come back if it smells of too much smoke. We went up to the third floor, a smoking floor, a...

mouette Macdonald Holland House Cardiff
... September 2005 my wife and I went to see the Stereophonics play in Cardiff and, wanting to be able to take some time to look around Cardiff (recommended to all), we decided to book a hotel for a Friday and Saturday night. After a quick Internet search we settled on MacDonald Holland House, a four star hotel close to Cardiff City Centre. We were quoted £98 for the Friday and £126 for the Saturday for a Superior Room with breakfast included. The Superior room is in fact the starting room, if you want a little more luxury you can choose from a Club Room, a Kings Suite or even the Presidential Suite. There are 160 rooms in total. The Hotel was very easy to find, taki...
