Advantages: Historical, Heritage, Good Facilities
Disadvantages: Has seen better days
Everyone in Liverpool knows the Adelphi Hotel-the most famous hotel in the city and a landmark ever since the great days of Liverpool as a great port.
It is now owned by Brittania Hotels and could be classified as a luxury hotel although equally you could argue it has seen better days. It has over 120 well appointed rooms with all the creature comforts and they are very spacious. There is also a good restaurant/coffee house, a hairdresser's and a disco, the latter is very popular with well heeled Liverpudlian's.
I have eaten three times at the Adelphi and feel the food is both of a high quality and very reasonably priced. The service is friendly and efficient.
There is a stunningly attractive lounge. It is huge and very well furnished. It was the place all the shipping tycoons of yesteryear would meet and sip afternoon tea.
Bill Bryson visited Liverpool and stayed in the Grand Old Aldelphi and it was reputed to be Harold Wilson's favourite hotel. Certainly it has great charm and seems somehow to be very much part of Liverpool's fabric. Long may it remain so.
