A really nice place to impress someone with!

When I went to Birmingham to see Mary Poppins 'The Musical' for a date at The Hipprodome with my new man it meant me and my date had to stay somewhere overnight. He sorted out all the arrangements and he'd stayed here before on buisness and liked it so this is where he ended up booking. These apartments are situated about five minutes away from New Street Train Station and Birmingham City Centre and two minutes away (on foot) from The Hipprodrome Theatre so it's a really great central location.

The apartments are situated in the Arcadian Centre which is like an open square and split into two levels and this is on the second level. The rest of the square contains bars and places to eat, such as Indian, Latin, Italian and Japanese (to name but a few!) and there is a club which is closed at the minute. The bars are all really elegant and it's all very upmarket and expensive and it looks such a nice area.

When you reach the apartments all you see is double glass doors. The apartments don't overlook the bars and resteraunts! You get into reception and it's so stylish. Cream marble floors, wooden front desk and huge brass mirror. You have to book these apartments on line via credit card so all you have to to do is sign in on arrival and collect your card key. There is a conciege service but we didn't need it. You go up a few steps to a lift and there is a small seating area with a leather sofa and a massive Lcd tv all very contempory and stylish.

The apartment was so pleasing on the eye it was unreal. Think show home. Cream walls throughout, wooden not laminated floors, chocolate brown curtains. So let me take you on a tour! (Ours was the one bedroom apartment option).

All apartments are open plan. There is a kitchen/diner that opened into the living room. The kitchen was a complete working kitchen! Ours had a cooker, hob, fridge, microwave, kettle the lot and all good branded stuff too. Complimentary tea and coffee was there and basically everything you would need if you wanted to cook for a family or have a dinner party for any reason. In the drawers was a cutlery set, utensils, pots and pans, open the cooker and there's flan dishes and roasting dishes. Everything matched they'd even put a four piece place-mat set and candles in one of the drawers. There was lots of attention to detail. You could get cooking and need scales, potato peeler, sieve, egg timer and you'd have it to hand. I mean everything you could need was provided! The kitchen was immaculate and clean and I felt like going to the local Tesco's and feeding my date! In front of that a lovely dining table with 4 leather high back chairs and on from that a
living room with a leather 2 seater sofa which pulls into a sofa bed (if you require it) and square matching leather chair and a table with a welcome pack and handbook and a phone directory. Lots of big large bright pictures on the wall and a LCD television with a built in dvd player built in and satellite.

Although uncluttered the scatter cushions and bright paintings made this feel alot more personal and again it's really clean. Looking on the website rooms do vary slightly but not in size just slightly in what they contain just colour schemes. Some rooms don't contain dvds players and you have to hire them etc. Depends on how much you pay. Also if you have a two bedroom apartment you have a larger sofa, larger dining table and of course more beds etc.

The bedroom was massive! Well above average. Biggest bed I've ever been with lovely white Egyptian cotton sheets and two pillows each side with nice brown leather headboard that was a tad sexy! Huge built in wardrobe with more bedding in if you need it (someone can sleep on the sofa) the only complaint with this was only two hangers were supplied, massive chest of drawers and bedside cabinets with lights on and little vases with flowers in and more art work on the walls made this room feel really cosy! There was also a rather nice alarm clock that was simple to work!

There were a couple more drawbacks with this room though. First there was giant holes in the wall where a painting must have come off at some point and made a bit of a mess. Didn't bother me in the slightest but when you see such a high quality finish to a place you do think whats that all about?! Also there is a full length mirror on the wall yet the plug socket is no where near it. So your stood miles away trying to dry and straighten
your hair and where you need to do that from there is no where to near to hand to place whatever products you are using. Also my sidelight didn't work. Minor annoyance and I'm sure I could've got that fixed but couldn't be bothered quite frankly lol

The other criticism and this is a big one is the bed. Basically it's two 3/4 sized beds pushed and clicked together (when you book you can have twin or double bed in any combination if having 2 bedrooms). It's secure and the bed was incredibly firm which was small issue for me as I have a very bad spine and it felt a tad to hard but I could cope with that. It was the god damn ridge down the middle where the two beds met! Now me and my date had a cuddle and we were fine we could fit on one bed but if you wanted to do anything naughty there could be a problem unless you get creative if you get my drift lol Other than that I was impressed and even more so when I opened a drawer and there was a brand new Nicky Clarke hairdryer for me to use! It made my one at home look rubbish!

The bathroom was large as well. White walls with toilet, basin and a normal bath with shower over and a really good shower curtain. The mirror is one of them that doesn't get mist on it or anything which is a pretty good feature for a bathroom with no window in it! Small selection of toiletries to pinch (haha) and lots of white towels of different sizes (on bed in piles on the bed when you arrive). Great big shelf to put everything on as well and a shaver socket. It's just a simple and nice bathroom. We both used the shower the following day and it was a great power shower and I'm a ditzy devil and had no problems in getting it working and didn't want to come out of it! I'm a tall old bird and usually have to have the head of the shower high and that means I get water spraying over the floor normally but I didn't here which was a relief!

Opposite the bathroom is a huge cupboard and in there is a decent iron and ironing board and a washer/drier (Hotpoint). You have to buy your own washing products of course as you do the food and drink you require.

The main attraction of these apartments for me are the balcony's! They all have one! The balcony runs from the living room to the bedroom and you can get out of both rooms on to it, so no windows as such. You can have a courtyard view or city view. We were high up on I think it was on the 5th floor and we had a city view. Not the apartments fault it wasn't a very pretty sight but we were in a town but saying that I could worship Selfridges when I got up in the morning! On the balcony it had a cigarette butt box attached which impressed me greatly. You can of course book a none smoking room but any of the rooms you can smoke on the balcony of course which suited me perfectly and I'm used to smoking out my windows at home anyway so felt more comfortable doing this! I did like the opening doors for fresh air and of course nothing stopping you getting a seat from the dining table and sitting there and watching the world go by! Whats more even though a main
road passed by we couldn't hear anything and no noise from the bars or restaurant, after-all this place is double glazed.

      Overall....

A brilliant idea and a home from home but probably nicer. You can self cater or there is a restaurant you can use though we never saw it or used it but I'm sure it was incredibly posh lol There are loads of places to eat nearby but this is great for families and it's a home from home in every way. There is 24 hour room service though again we never needed it and you can have papers delivered and alarm calls if you desire. There is also adequate and safe car parking to the rear of the apartments (£10.00 a day fee). There is a safe for each room that only you can get into with your card key and by pressing buttons situated by the front desk and all rooms have wireless Internet access (sometimes it's complementary, depends on when you are staying etc and you need to enquire in advance) and all rooms have phones (charges apply). The apartment is fairly quiet apart from people moving about in the hallway but that doesn't go on all night to the best of my
knowledge and if it did you just shut the bedroom door on it. I didn't hear any outside noise at all as I've mentioned already and felt very secluded even though we were near bars and clubs and buses and cars passed outside out doors (patio one's to the balcony). The apartment was warm and you have control over the heating or air conditioning entirely and room for room, lots of storage space and lots of room and the apartments are light and have a great selection of lighting.

The apartment come in one bedroom or two bedroom options and of course theirs a sofa bed in all apartments as well! You are allowed to sleep up to 3 people in a one bedroomed apartment and up to 5 in a two bedroom.

These apartments do boast a four star rating and this is where the prices shocked me lol!

The nightly rates including midweek can be anything up to £250 based on two/three people sharing per night. I know ours was alot of money and you could feel that! You can get deals from as little as £65.00 per night based on two or three people sharing and what's more the prices are the same for families too so a bit more economical though I'm sure that a family of five in some cases wouldn't be happy at £250 per night when you have to cater and cook for yourself as well! 7 nights here could be as much £2250! Look out for the cheaper rooms unless you have the money to splash about!

Is it worth it? Yes and no. It's a lot of money to pay and have to do all your meals yourself but then if you want the location and are happy to eat out then definitely and I shall deffo stay the odd night here in the future! Do shop about just type in Arc Apartments, Arcadian Centre, Birmingham and the prices on offer for the same place is unbelievable so study form hard before booking!
