Advantages: Nice lobby, good breakfast
Disadvantages: Rooms, food
The Bonnington Hotel in Bloomsbury looks great as soon as you walk in. The looby area is spacious, with comfortable looking sofas and plenty of marble over the floors. Reception staff are friendly and efficient. The restaurant serves a good English breakfast and even offers a real cooked vegetarian breakfast with spicy herb sausages and hash browns.
These are all the good things I have to say about this hotel, so if you own shares or your little angel works there, stop reading now.
The hotel does not appear to have any porters to help you with your luggage, or it may just be that staff do not like to venture out of reception into the badlands beyond.
The rooms are beastly, dark and cramped. The furniture looks like it has been around since the 1960?s and is in definite need of upgrading. Of the two rooms I stayed in on separate occasions neither of the windows opened properly. They were also single glazed which is not conducive to a good nights sleep in central London.
The room service menu was grim, offering a very basic pub style menu. When the food arrived it did not inspire confidence, yet the prices would indicate that The Bonnington thinks its food is a lot bette than it actually is.
Overall I would not recommend The Bonnington for anything more than coffee and cakes in the lobby.
