Advantages: Nice bathroom, good location
Disadvantages: Staff quite unhelpful, uncomfortable bed
I stayed at this Hotel in December 2008 with my boyfriend, we got a good rate i think we paid about £45 excluding breakfast for a saturday night.
The external appearance of the hotel is nice and is an oldish style building, and the location is excellent as it is on New Street its a few minutes walk from the main shopping centre the Bullring, and Victoria Square. It is about a 10 minute walk to get to Broad Street the major clubbing area of Birmingham, and about the 5 - 10 minutes to get to the Arcadian Centre and China Town.
The lobby is nice, the staff did seem like they just wanted to check you in and get rid of you as soon as possible but they were not rude, just not very pleasant. At check out stage we asked to leave our bags and they said no as the luggage room was full, which i think was very unhelpful. The room we had was quite small, and looked more like a house than a hotel, with the decor. It was quite floral and well...'homely'. The bed was not very comfortable to be honest and i did not get a very good nights sleep.
The bathroom was nice, probably the best part of the room, there was a bath, shower, toilet and sink and was quite big and was nice and clean.
I did not actually eat at the hotel so unfortunately i cannot comment on the food or beverage.
In my honest opinion, this is not the best hotel i have stayed in and i probably wouldnt stay here again as there are much better hotels in Birmingham for not much more.
Summary: stay for the location, not much else
