Advantages: location, service
Disadvantages: cost
The Marriot Hotel , Cardiff. Location: This hotel is 50m from the main strip of pubs and clubs in the throbbing centre of Cardiff. It is only 200m from the train station, and clearly visible from it. The location could not be better for a stay in the city. Price: I paid 110 pounds for a normal double room, with 2 for breakfast, though checking the board in the hotel the 'rack rate' for that room is 165 pounds, so there stands a testament to booking on the internet! Lobby: As you walk through the doors it is clear that this is a 'higher market' hotel. The huge floral display on the main table helped to give it away! It was both very light and cheery, with plenty of seating, both secluded and public. Service: The check-in process was pleasant and painless, not a sensation always experienced in hotels! All questions were answered comprehensively, and with no strange looks for what were probably stupid questions. Room: Though the room was at the bottom end of the hotels scale, it was of a reasonable size and well layed out. The bathroom was a sight to behold, I could have lived in there! The only down side was that there was no main room light, and this led to a difficulty for the application of make-up. View: The view that you receive all depends on whether you get a room at the front or the back of the hotel. I got one at the rear, and so was greeted with the sight of a huge construction site. However had I had one at the front of the hotel, then I would have been greeted with a view of the aforementioned pub and club strip. Food: The food was very expensive and as such all we ate was the breakfast, which was included in the price that we had paid. If you have it delivered to the room, all it costs is 2.5 pounds, and the service was very friendly and did not wait or accept a tip. Just as a sidenote, if you want salt and pepper with room service, be sure to ask for it. Mini-
bar: Don't touch! Don't touch. Please be aware,(as the small labels say), that even if you move something from the mini-bar, you will be charged for it. And the prices are far from cheap. Bar: Reasonable prices and a waitress service made for a pleasant trip to the in-house bar 'chats'. What was also nice was the fact that they served coffee as well, so you were not pressured into alcohol. Checkout: As with the check-in, this was a fast and efficient service, given with a smile and a cordial goodbye. To sum up, we had a very nice time at the hotel and would recommend it to anyone wanting a good night both out and in.
