Advantages: Good food and drink with a resident ghost!

Disadvantages: A little pricy and a little too touristy -but that can't be helped.

Whilst mapping the area I had the pleasure of living in the Castleton/Edale region for 6 weeks and the Castle Inn was one of the nicest public houses in the area. If you are visiting the area what you must understand is that it is a touristy area as you have the Blue John mines, the lovely village of Castleton, the start of the Pennine Way and Mam Tor so with that aside it is understandably very hard to find a good local pub, but the Castle Inn manages to do it. It has a lovely feel and the bar staff are really friendly and they will let you grab a table for a meal or just for drinks. The selection of drinks is standard pub with some good wines and ales. What is most surprising is that they also have the best hot chocolates which are perfect for the weary walker of frozen shopper. There food selection is good and again the standard of food is good, but not amazing -although I wouldn't expect that. They are quite fast with food even at the busiest times, although I wouldn't trust them to deliver the food by a dead line.

Price:
They are a little on the pricey side, but everyone in a touristy area usually is and they are not horrendously pricey.

Pets:
Dogs are welcome, but only outside due to the food service, which is nice on a good day but can be annoying in the cold or when the place is swarming with people as it is on the corner of the main road.

In summary
For the area it is a very good pub with a nice feel. The food is at an expected standard and they have a good range of drinks. On the whole given it's location and clientele this pub does exceptionally well and is recommended for anyone looking for a pub in the area.

Summary: A good place to go.
