A REALLY FANTASTIC AND SPECIAL HOLIDAY EXPERIENCE.

I asked for this cottage to be added to the dooyoo catalogue. I was eager to share my experience of this holiday cottage with you all. I was so lucky to have spend a blissful week in this holiday cottage at the beginning of April. It is without a doubt a beautiful experience and one that I would thoroughly recommend.

We have a touring caravan, so we have visited Cornwall on numerous occasions. This time though I wanted to experience something a little more special. Something totally different that none of us had done before. I have always had a romantic notion of staying in a secluded Cornish cottage, with log burning fires and high wooden beamed ceilings.

What started off as a pipe dream was initiated by logging on to the cottages in Cornwall website. I have already written a review of this site so I won't go into detail. But after typing in my requirements I was left with a list of cottages to choose from.

I was just browsing from one cottage to another, but nothing was really catching my attention. Then the cottage of my absolute dreams popped up on the page and I knew then that by hook or by crook we were going to stay here.

The four bedroom detached cottage is situated in Helston Cornwall. There is a large gated drive with beautiful gardens either side of the gate. Then you have the cottage. This boasts a large modern and newly refurnished wooden kitchen. Everything is spotlessly clean and all the kitchen utensils you will possibly need are provided. There is a microwave, fridge , cooker, toaster, kettle and coffee perculator in the kitchen. Whilst there is plenty of space available for you to put any groceries you have brought away. There is a large amount of crockery, full dinner service and pots and pans for your use. All are spotlessly clean to the point of gleaming.(and Im a nightmare because Im fussy,)

The large kitchen area is seperated into a kitchen diner. The dining area is really country cottage. It has a large pine dining table which seats six. It also has a large, grand fireplace, which has been filled with an ornate pine dresser. There is a large window in the dining area and this looks out onto the most stunning view of green feilds. I found myself gazing out of this window for hours, watching the farmer in the field tend to his cattle. We also watched a sheep dog rounding up the sheep which was very impressive.

In the middle of the kitchen is a beautiful wooden, staircase. This leads you up onto the upper floor. This floor boasts two huge double bedrooms and a single bedroom. All bedrooms have a country cottage theme in their decor. The antique wardrobes and dressing tabe add sophistication and charm to these rooms. The single bedroom is more suitable for a child as it has a low wooden ceiling. Again this room is decorated in the most elegant of taste. Although there are one or two paintings on the wall which could do with updating.

There is plenty of room upstairs for all clothing to be stored neatly. I noticed when getting into bed in the night that the bedding was so very fresh and crisp. There was also a faint apple smell on the sheets which must have been a fabric spray, which was deliciously comforting.

The bathroom is also upstairs. I was very impressed with the size of this room. It hadn't looked particularly big in the pictures on the internet. The bathroom wasn't huge, but it was really nicely decorated. The bath, sink and toilet were again spotlessly clean. There was a really powerful shower which was situated over the bath. This was a really welcome facility in the mornings. There were towels supplied which were white and fluffy. However I took my own.

Whilst upstairs is fully carpeted, the downstairs area is all tiled. There is a small notice asking you kindly to remove your shoes, which I thought showed that the owners obviously had a great deal of love and pride in this cottage. I was more than happy to oblige.

There is a small step in the kitchen which leads into the living room area. This is where the x factor of this cottage comes to the fore. The living room is really spacious and boasts two seating areas. There is also a huge wooden burner at the one end of the room which is such an amazing character feature. There is also a smaller wooden burner at the opposite end of the room, but we didn't light this one.

All the wooden logs you will need to start up your fire is provided for no extra charge. However once your initial supply of firewood and logs have been used up you are free to use the stock in the garage attached to the cottage. You do have pay for this though, we ended up using two bags of logs and two bags of kindling (as we lit the fire every night.) and this cost us £9.50 which I think is very reasonable.

Once the fire is lit and the small fire lights are switched on in the evening. I was in heaven. The crackling of the logs and the orange glow of the fire was hypnotising. Creating a warm, relaxing ambiance that I fell in love with. There was a television and dvd player in the living room which we did use, but I prefered reading books in the evening and leaving the noise of the tv at bay.

The furniture in the living room was very comfy and inkeeping with the decor of the cottage. The setee was so comfortable which I think is due to the fact that it has been well used. It is really soft and you sink into the cushions. The only thing I found was that you tend to get lost in the setee and it takes a couple of attempts to get back up onto your feet.

Along the back of the setee is a beautiful sheepskin rug which me and my daughter would snuggle under early evening before the fire took hold.

The ground that is attached to this cottage is astounding. There is asmall garden to the back of the property. This garden is really sweet, with beautiful plants and a picnic table if you wish to eat your meals al fresco.

To the side of the cottage is a very impressive and thoroughly wonderful orchard. The children spent Easter Sunday retrieving chocolate eggs that had been hung from the branches of the trees. Life doesn't get any better than this!! If that's not enough, there is also a large grassed area which houses a rustic shed that again adds country character.

Before breakfast each morning we would go out of the main gate and down the lane which led us to the local farm area. There were lots of animals to be seen and my son was very impressed. The scenery is simply breathtaking and I could almost feel my soul being lifted.

Although this cottage is a holiday home, there has been no corners cut in order to provide customers with a homely feel. Little touches help to make you feel so at home that you begin to think that it is indeed your house after only a short while. When we arrived there were chocolate eggs, organic cider and locally sourced apple juice. Plus some fresh flowers which had been arranged into a vase on the dining table, I was well impressed with this personal touch. I thought is really added a personal touch and made me feel very welcome. There was also a beautiful card, which had been hand written by the owners Sheila and Chris wishing us a lovely holiday.

On top of the fireplace is a visitors book, they are obviously very keen to know what people think of the property. There is also a file explaining what actions have been taking regarding customers suggestions. This further portrayed to me how passionate the owners are to provide a great holiday experience.

The cost of this holiday is not as expensive as I would have thought. I paid £500 for a week here this was for the four of us. However this cottage slept six and would have cost £500 even if there had been six of us. The price to hire this cottage fluctuates greatly through out the year. With peak summer season costing around £850 a week. Off peak weeks can cost as little as £350. Which is incredibly good value, particularly if there are a few of you who are willing to share the cost.

I would not hesitate to recommed this cottage. It is a great base to explore Cornwall. It is pretty central to all the local seaside resorts such as ST Ives and Lands End. You do need a car though to explore these places. The cottage itself is sheer bliss. It offers a real country cottage experience. I embraced country living with open arms. I went without makeup for two days which is totally unheard of and I bought a pair of wellies (they were leopard print though) well I can't change totally can I!!

Although the holiday went quite quickly. I can safely say that the memories of that fantastic week will live in my heart forever!!
