***The Place***
The Comfort Inn Victoria is situated just behind Victoria Train Station in the centre of London in a four storey Georgian Townhouse. It is just a few minutes from the underground station and buses and coach stations are easily accessed from here.
The Comfort in is a 24 hour non smoking hotel. Within a good distance of all the London sights and also near to Pimlico and Belgravia for the more expensive retail experience.
***Why I was There***
I work in London; however travel an hour on the train to get home. My best friends and I try to organise an outing at least once a year. This year, it was Christmas and one of our friends' birthdays, we decided to go out and have a great time, dance all night and stay up late. None of us would be able to get home and would have had our night cut short (which is what always happens to us!) so we decided to stay out for the night.
***How Much?***
I looked on the internet - looking through review sites, as we wanted something cheap and clean (not easy in the City!) I was shown this hotel on a number of occasions, but it was actually cheaper booking through their site at www.comfortinnvictoria.co.uk. Where I got a B&B in a 4 bed room (the cheapest option for us) for £99 per night.
Bargain. I gave my credit card details on the internet printed my receipt and waited for out night out!
***The Hotel***
The days before our night out, my friend wanted to check if they had an ironing board and if they would let her occupy the room first as she would be the first one there. Success - they had an ironing board and iron and I gave them her name so she could get there first (she always has to get the best bed!!). They also have check in time from 2pm and check out time at 11 am the next day.
I arrived at the hotel, after being confused which direction to come out of Victoria Station as there are so many - thankfully I printed a map! I was pleasantly surprised by the exterior of the hotel. Sometimes Victoria can look like it's very rough and dirty, but it looked nice. I entered the reception, which although plain was clean and smart looking. The person behind the desk was smart and I checked in. In the palava leaving the station I lost my confirmation, or it was in the deep recesses of my bag, however they found my name without incident and pointed me into the direction to my room.
Down in the Lift. - I was at street level?!
Oh dear. I exited the lift into the breakfast room. Which upon evening inspection was clean, tidy, nothing fancy but had everything there (cereal), coffee machine etc) I turned right into the bedroom corridor and found a door in the corner with our room number on it. I knocked on the door and was greeted by the harem.
The bedroom was small there was a double bed and 2 single beds, not vibrating I'm pleased to say, but very comfortable. You wouldn't want to spend a week in here but for convenience and one night. It was perfect. Everything was clean and tidy - well not when I got there - but I was assured it was fine. But being in the basement there was no window. So no natural light. Being the beginning of a very cold winter, this was fine, however with 4 breathing adults in the room who were rushing to get ready it started to heat up.
3 of us had a tussle with the air con unit and eventually it cooled down (by the power of prayer I think). The bathroom was basic shower and toilet, however a fantastic addition was Dove shower gel (in a refillable bottle stuck to the wall) and also the same outside the bathroom at the sink. It was perfectly clean and there were towels provided. There was also a dressing table with a good mirror and light to perfect the look! LCD TV from a ceiling bracket made the room modern and perfect.
The room also had a safe, telephone, Tea & coffee making facilities, hairdryer and shaving points.
***Re-entering the Hotel***
So it was 5am and we come back from dancing and singing and drinking etc. The door is locked - which we had no key (and they told me it was 24 hours). We knocked and knocked and rang the bell for about 10 minutes and probably woke up half the street, eventually the night receptionist woke up and let us in. Considering it was 5am, we were cold and tired and they did say it was a 24 hour reception, we were a bit disappointed.
****Overall****
Overall this was a fantastic hotel to stay in for one night, the basement room was a little off putting, but didn't matter as we were only there for one night. I would advise if staying longer you check which floor your room would be on as this would be off putting to some people. It was clean and tidy and the rooms big enough for convenience. If we had stayed there any longer it would have been a tight squeeze.
Summary: Excellent value at Comfort Inn!
