Advantages: Very welcoming, Clean, Near to City Centre, Special weekend rates

Disadvantages: Train noise

When we stayed at the Copthorne Hotel in Newcastle we had a wonderful time, except for one small item, the trains!
The hotel overlooks the River Tyne and every room has a riverside view, which is quite stunning, however this also means that it overlooks all the bridges over the river. The closest bridge to the hotel is a rail bridge and all night long trains crossed the bridge and the noise really did become very annoying.
However, given the choice I would certainly return to this hotel. The facilities were very clean and the staff had the traditional North East, very welcoming and helpful attitude. The breakfast was outstanding, with a very large variety of hot and cold foods. The hotel is only minutes from the Italian sector of Newcastle and in the evening the variety of wonderful bistros and restaurants mean you certainly will not go hungry. A little hint here, try to eat before 7.30pm, most of the bistros offer at least half price meals before this time.
The hotel also has it’s own swimming pool and steam room which are open before breakfast so you can have that early morning swim.
When you are booking look out for special offers at weekends, when you can save up to half of the normal room price.

If you have money to spend, *don't* eat out, eat in! Some of the best food I've ever eaten :)
