Advantages: Friendly, exellent food and a good pint
Disadvantages: Not enough veggie options on the menu
A major proportion of my working life is spent on different sites within the UK, because of this I have sampled the delights of many hotels. It is my experience that the smaller independent hotelier offers a friendlier and more personal package. One of the best of these small hotels has got to be the "Copy Nook" in Bolton by Bowland (between Clitheroe and Skipton) run by trained chef Brendan Woods and his able team. The place is small and cosy, with only 6 bedrooms. Each of the bedrooms has en-suite facilities and all are kept in pristine condition. Brendan knows his food and his clientele and runs a very pleasant restaurant that caters for many tastes, although it must be noted that the vegetarian options are limited. My own personal favourites are roast duck, pheasant and the duck and cherry pie. The restaurant is usually busy at weekends and booking is recommended. The surrounding countryside is breathtaking, with many good walks on footpaths and bridleways. If you want to visit the Forest of Bowland area, this hotel should be your starting point.
