Situated just a few miles from Junction 42 of the M6 and just a couple of miles south west of Carlisle Dalston Hall is well situated for business in the Carlisle area and as a pleasant stop if travelling further North.

The Hotel is a former 15th Century mansion with extensive grounds and gardens. The Hall has a substantial history and was used by Generals laying siege to Carlisle during the Jacobite Rebellion. Inside the hotel many original features remain including a superb banqueting hall complete with minstrels gallery above. There is no doubt this hotel would make an excellent venue for a wedding or similar celebration. It would provide some excellent places for formal photographs both inside the hall and outside in the gardens.
As a hotel it has about 20 bedrooms all of which seem quite comfortable though not exactly spacious. All have en-suite bathrooms which are well equipped and well decorated. There is the usual supply of soap and shampoo for guests. Each room has tea and coffee making facilities but the hotel has a comfortable library and tea could also be taken here.

The restaurant was very quiet each time I stayed there and is a bit dark and lacking in atmosphere. At weekends a pianist plays and this would possibly help the ambience. The food is excellent and makes much use of local produce. Unfortunately when I stayed there a week or so ago the Foot and Mouth epidemic was playing havoc with local markets and more animals found there way to Great Orton MAFF disposal site 3 miles away than to the market.
A single room cost £70 and the meal came to about £25 for two courses plus coffee.
The Dalston Hall Hotel is good but what lets it down really is its situation. You are not really in the heart of the lakes or by the sea or by any area of particular natural beauty. In short you need a reason to be there. If you are though you will be well looked after.
