Introduction - what Damons it is about
Damons have classed themselves as casual dinning in the food service industry, which was first opened in 1979 and then became a franchise in 1988 with the opening of Damons, Lincoln. They are known worldwide for their award winning ribs along with their steak, chicken and shrimp dishes and its unique onion loaf. They cook their food to order and use the most natural ingredients where possible. There are a lot of places surrounding Damons which can be visited while dinning here such as the Lincoln castle, Brayford pool, Theater royal, odeon cinema, Natural world centre, rand farm park and a lot more. Damons restaurant can be found at 999 Doddington road Lincoln, LN6 3SE with their contact telephone number being 01522 887722. There is a website with a map of directions and you can also find out any information from rooms to prices and the menu at www.damons.co.uk
Experience with the motel
A bunch of us were planning on going for a birthday meal to Damons and decided that it would be a good idea to maybe find somewhere to stay over so that celebratory drinks could be consumed by everyone, since the birthday boy was driving this seemed appropriate. My dad had been here previously before and told me he stayed over at Damons own motel but he mentioned that this is a very popular place to dine and stay and it was usually a few months to book a room, we however looked into this three weeks before the birthday and discovered one room left for the night we wanted to go, so we agreed quickly that's what we were going to do and using a smart phone managed to book the room via the website. The only room that was available was an en-suit room with a double bed at £67, this is more than I would normally want to pay but that was the only room available and since we wanted to drink not drive it was obvious we needed to purchase it. Upon arrival we noticed the motel is not apart of the restaurant building but it is next to it, joining them together is a roofed walkway with white fair lights running along each side making it very visually pleasing and pretty. As we walked through the door instead of being greeted by a receptionist we were stood looking at a wall with signs on it, they were easy to follow as they led us to their 'temporary reception' as the motel was going through ground floor renovations. We had to pay at reception rather than online which was fine by us, there she gave us 20% discount sheet which we could use in the restaurant and our card key and then she pointed us in the right direction as to where our room was, the corridors are colour coordinated by green and red.
As soon as we opened the door I ran in and jumped on the bed, this is how I like to test it. I instantly flew back up bouncing it was that bouncy and comfortable, then actually turning the lights on we noticed we had a king sized bed not a double which we thought was amazing, Overall the room was very contemporary decorated, it had a tv with free view channels and the room was equipped with four huge mirrors located between the room and bathroom which for me is a much needed accessory of a room. When we dumped all our things in the room we swiftly left because we has a table booked in the restaurant but when we got back that night we decided to watch a movie in bed, cuddles in the center of the bed I found that the covers were basically three sheets and I was very cold all night because the sheets were thin and there were large empty cold spaces that neither of us could obviously fill, in the morning we used the shower which was easy to work and was instantly hot which was lovely, despite bringing our own toiletries they provided both dove shower gel and shampoo and a hand wash which was nice to see some good quality products being provided. They offer breakfast with the room for just £6.95 however we were going to Nandos the day after so we decided to skip this offer and continued to check out at the 11am checking out time.
Experience with the restaurant
Damons is a busy and very sort after restaurant to eat in so we had to book the meal, we wanted more people to attend but they only had room for 8 of us to dine at 7.30 or 10 of us to dine at 9.30 so some people dropped out and we chose the 7.30pm dining time, we had to ring up and book this using the number which was provided on the website. The reason we chose to eat at Damons is because the birthday person gets their meal for free - main and dessert and when staying in the motel gets 20% off the rest of their bill, since it was me and my partner(birthday boy) staying in the motel he got his meal for free and I got 20% off my overall bill so that was a great reason to go there. First impressions as we walked through the door was Posh. The place was dimly light which created a great atmosphere, with no windows visible and a wall of black mirror it gave off a prestige casino feeling. With almost all staff members looking perfect - beautiful hair and faces and pristine uniforms of white shirts black bow ties but with casual wear on the bottom - most wore skinnies/jeans. These are several areas to the restaurant itself and that is of course the dining area which seats 150 people at anyone time, a little reception area for waiting on a table and then the bar area which I'm told often has a casual piano player there to create nice mood music, this however was not there when we went. We were escorted to our table of 8 by our assigned waiter for the night, Tony. once we were seated we decided some drinks were in order and so I went and bought a jug of sangria, a bottle of corona and two cocktails of blue lagoon, this came up to £25 but we decided that these drinks would last us the full duration of our meal, however monday- friday between 6-7pm is cocktail hour so you can get two cocktails for the price of one which is around the £5 mark, This is great but it isn't always possible to be able to book a table within this time.
I thought that our table was a little small, we has four sat either side but with all the cutlery, side plates, drinks and the complimentary bread and butter there wasn't much room for anything else on the table and we had just decided to have all three courses so we knew that any little space left would have to be used wisely, saying that everyone decided they were going to order buffalo wings and all decided to order 10 each, I was told and could clearly see they were loving these, I however who was very cautious of the pricing in this place ordered the garlic and cheese chiabatta, this cost me only £3.95 (without discount) I didn't know what to expect portions wise but was happy to find 10 slices of this including the ends, however this still wasn't large which was great because I didn't want to fill up. My boyfriend still had to pay for his starter and only got his main and dessert for free but he was happy about that because he got discount on that anyway, the free main however excludes all steak and lobster dishes so he and almost everyone else had a rack and a half of ribs which came with various sides. I choose the have the chicken breast fajitas with a side of spiced fries and a side salad. Our waiting time after the starter wasn't long as all it would out within 10/15 minutes which was perfect. Mine arrived with the chicken and onion on a sizzling plate, a separate bowl for the fries and salad, a plate of dips such as sour cream and salsa and then another dish with really fluffy soft tortillas in them. I would really happy when I touched the tortillas because they were really soft warm and flour-y, however once I had got some chicken, salad, onion and dip in there they all of a sudden felt really thin and often broke was I was biting into it so I had to be really careful that I didn't overload them in size, these were only the small sized tortillas as well and since I was going to pay £14.95 (without discount) for them I would of expected them to be bigger at least. From what I could see and hear with the pile of bone plates everyone was tucking in nicely with their ribs.
Lastly only a few of us decided to order dessert, the birthday boy got a complimentary birthday cake which was only mini because it was for one person, but the waiter bought it out in it's opened box with a sparkler in it and proceeded to sing happy birthday along with the rest of the table, this may seem quite childish but it's a great gesture from the restaurant, the rest of us had a mixture of cheese cakes, pancakes and I had the chocolate cheese cake with a huge amount of ice cream which was a surprise. Overall the meal portions were large and unexpected yet I do feel my wraps could of been thicker if not bigger so I didn't make a mess of myself or the table, the selection of food however on the menu is really large and can be found online at www.damons.co.uk. The cakes I found there wasn't a large selection but the one I did have was delicious. Overall our bill of almost three courses for 8 people came up to £177.94 and it showed out discount on the bottom of this, so we all put in our own price and I decided to pay the original amount of £25 for all my meals because it meant that my money would cover my boyfriends price of the starter so he wouldn't have to put money towards it.
My overall opinion
I believe we were very lucky to get a room at such a short notice and all the staff we encountered in the motel knew and told us of all the offers we could receive and were extremely helpful, happy and kind, the room was lovely with the exception of being cold at night we cannot complain. The restaurant had a great feel and vibe to each, every staff member happy to help and being served at the bar straight away with an excellent knowledge of their drinks and cocktails. I loved that we were assigned a waiter because it seems much more personal that way, our Tony was excellent and threw out a few jokes when we was talking about how one of us don't like calomarie and ones doesn't like onions, we was comical, helpful, friendly and just generally a good waiter so we left him a hefty tip which we feel he deserved every penny of. As for the food the quality of the food was amazing, everything was cooked perfect and all came out at the same time just with the exception that the tortillas were really thin but everything else was well worth the money, apart from that we will be re visiting Damons in the futute.
