easyHotel Earls Court (London)
Advantages: Great location, bargain room rates, friendly staff, simple, clean rooms.
Disadvantages: Windowless rooms are not to everyones tastes.
We stayed for one night at this easyHotel in Earls Court earlier this month. It was a saturday night and we just needed somewhere central and cheap to sleep so having had a pretty good experience with the South Kensington branch I figured we would give this one a go.
The Earls Court area is one we already know fairly well, getting a room here for £49 on a Saturday night was something of a coup in our minds. You can, in fact get rooms for less than this (down to an unbelievable £30 if you book far enough ahead) but rather than opting for the very smallest rooms (as reviewed in my South Kensington offering) we went for a 'standard room' which is slightly bigger.
The set up is the same as with the other branch I have visited. Reception is on the ground floor and after dark you will have to buzz to be let in, here the reception is a largeish room which has a number of vending machines in it as well as the reception desk. The lady who checked us in was friendly and polite and clearly multi-lingual (she was speaking German to another couple when we arrived and we later heard her on the phone in what we think was her native Russian).
We were given a room in the basement, I was aware when we booked that this would be a windowless room so it was no shock to us. I was actually surprised on entering however, at how much floor space we had. The L shaped room consisted of a space about ten feet by 6 feet, a double bed in the shorter bit of the L and a capsule bathroom off the main space.
Of course, everything is very minimal, there is literally no furniture other than the bed and a small flat screen TV in the room. You have to rent the remote control in order to use the TV and we did not bother.
The bathroom for this standard room was also bigger than in the small room I had previously stayed in and you could actually use some of the shelves in there too. There is a problem with the lack of shower tray in that the entire bathroom floor gets wet when the shower is on, I would advise you take a spare towel with you (they do provide 1 per guest) purely to mop up the excess water and prevent wet socks.
We slept perfectly well in this room (although much wine had been consumed), as there is no window the 'climate' of the room is controlled by vents and a filtered air system, this works pretty well to keep the room fresh and at a constant temperature but it does give off a slight humming noise when it kicks in. This was not enough to wake me or prevent me sleeping however.
We did not hear any noise from other guests and found the room to be perfectly adequate. For a central London crash pad it is ideal and a bit of a bargain really.
The hotel is located about a 5 minute walk from Earls Court tube station, in between the two there are tons of shops, restaurants and bars and a Sainsburys local. It is very easy to find, you literally come out of the tube and turn left, walk to the major junction at the end of the road, left again and you will see it ahead of you on the right.
Some points to note; firstly there are no lifts and rooms are across 5 floors including the basement, this means access may be a problem for the less able bodied. Secondly, there is a Premier Inn literally two doors down which encorporates a branch of Costa Coffee, therefore if you do not like vending machine coffee first thing, simply nip out and grab some from here instead.
All in all a great budget option in Earls Court, great location, bargain prices and clean, simple rooms.
Summary: A great option in central London for anyone on a budget who just needs a bed for the night,
