Introduction

I have never stayed in a posh hotel so spending a night at the Elizabeth Hotel was quite a treat for me and I was much like a giggling little schoolgirl, I cannot remember being so excited in my life.

This hotel is part of the Elizabeth Hotels group formed in 1991, which has 13 hotels and 4 Inns they are located in East Yorkshire, Lancashire, Lincolnshire, Norfolk, Northamptonshire and Suffolk.

The Hotel
========

The hotel I stayed in was in Rockingham, Corby. The hotel is based quite near to Rockingham Castle, which was built by William The Conqueror over 900 years ago, that's a place I have not visited, but I think I should.

The hotel is supposed to have 71 rooms but at the moment they are currently rebuilding some of the hotel because they had a fire not so long ago, so there may be some change to this at the moment.

Even though there is building work going on the entrance to the hotel was very nice and modern, check in was very smooth and simple also but I must confess I did not have much to do with this.

The hotel also offers facilities for conferences with 7 meeting and conference suites that can accommodate 10 to 400 people. You are also able to book weddings there, as they are licensed for civil ceremonies and can have up to 350 guests.

There is a non-smoking restaurant and light meals and snacks are served at the bar. Children are welcome at this hotel and they have special child prices and menus available. All public areas are air-conditioned.

The other little interesting piece of information is that small/medium dogs are allowed to stay at the hotel for a small charge of £5 per night. It is nice to know that canine companions can also enjoy spending a night away from home.


The Room
========

Since this was an early Christmas treat I stayed in one of their mini suites that has a four-poster king size bed and a Jacuzzi.

Upon entering the room, which was lit by lamps, I later discovered was to hide the strip lights they had in that room. I entered into the sitting area and too my left was a door, which took you into the bathroom.

The sitting area is very spacious and the furniture is Victorian looking, I could not tell you if it was authentic because that is not my forte. There is a large two-seater sofa and pay per view television.

To the left of the sofa lends into the bedroom area, where I am greeted by this huge bed (also Victoria looking), it looks so inviting that I wanted to run and jump onto it and be caught by the huge mattress but I manage to restrain myself.

After dumping my bags I decided it is time for a peek into the bathroom, considering how traditional the suite looked the bathroom was very modern, toilet, basin and the corner bathtub, which is also a Jacuzzi at a push of a button. A shower is also attached to the tub should the Jacuzzi and bathtub be too much for you.

The room also has facilities available for Internet connection and the usual tea and coffee facilities are also made available to you. You can also order room service available 24 hours of the day, still something I have never done but maybe one day.

Overview

Like I said this was a Christmas treat so luckily I did not pay but I have been informed that this suite is around £100 per night. I am sure that there are some more reasonable priced rooms however there online booking system is not currently working properly.

I did enjoy my stay because I have never spent a night in a posh hotel like this. However if I had been paying I would not have been very happy with some of the facilities but this may be due to the fire they have experienced.

The thing I was disappointed about the most was the strip lights for the cost of the suite I would have expected better lighting. With how the room was furnished it was just a major let down to see this lovely suite be lit by strip lights when the lamps did not give off enough light.

I might just be me being picky but there were only two sachets of coffee, tea and hot chocolate. I do not drink tea and I am not of big fan of hot chocolate either so two sachets was not enough. I probably could have asked for more but I am one of those people who do not like to complain.

I had to have a go in the Jacuzzi and I spent just over an hour relaxing in it and felt most pampered indeed. The water was keep at nice hot temperature without scalding you. The bath foam was provided in the room but just be careful as too much can some make more bubbles than you anticipated for.

The night I spent there was very enjoyable and I did sleep well which is very unlike me, as normally if I am in a strange bed I cannot sleep much at all. When my alarm went off at 6am the following morning (I had to go to work) I must admit that I did not want to get out of that huge warm bed and could have quite happily turned over and gone back to sleep.

Would I stay there again? I probably would. I did enjoy my night there and I did feel like a rich well to do person but for £100 per night you don't really get much for your money. For me the feel of the suite was very nice until the strip lights were discovered. However since they are rebuilding after the fire there had been some temporary changes, like the dining area being in the lobby of the hotel. I may try this again after building work has been finished to fully assess whether my experience was just an exception.
