Advantages: Good facilities and high standard of service
Disadvantages: Not in a central location
We stayed here for two nights last summer when attending a wedding at the racecourse which is within walking distance. There were four of us who stayed in connecting rooms on a bed and breakfast basis.
LOCATION
The hotel is located at High Gosforth Park, Newcastle and is easily reached by car as it is just off the A1.
It is about 8km away from the town centre and railway station which you would have to reach by taxi.
The airport is around 10km away and would also be reached by taxi.
COST
A double room was around £60 per night including breakfast which I thought was very good for he standard of service and the quality of rooms and facilities. This was an offer they had at the time. I think the standard price is £69 room only or £89 with breakfast. There are also packages available including dinners.
ROOMS
There are 178 non-smoking rooms in the hotel spread over 6 floors which are accessible to people with walking difficulties and there are a few lift around the building, each room has a safe, mini bar, ironing board, hairdryer and tea and coffee making facilities.
We had two adjoining rooms a double and a twin with a connecting door which can be locked if required. The rooms were large and clean with nice spacious en suite bathrooms, plenty of towels and toiletries supplied.
The beds were comfortable and extra blankets and pillows were available in the wardrobes if needed.
There was also a desk, chair and television in the room which had the normal freeview channels and some pay to view movies
Rooms are also air conditioned which was really needed when we stayed in the summer as it was extremely hot and the sun would come right in through our windows, there in climate control in the rooms which is individually controlled which is always good to have.
FACILITIES
Parking is available at the hotel for a cost of £3 per day.
Lovely swimming pool, sauna and jacuzzi, even spotted a couple of Newcastle football players there, my sister got a couple of autographs from them too (this made her day, week, month and year).
There is a gym which is large and would need to be for the amount of rooms but I often find that it is a problem in hotels that they have tiny rooms and small dining areas and gyms but there was no problem here. Unfortunately we didn't see any footballers working out I was standing by to give massages :(
Facilities we didn't use included tennis, squash, a spa and hair and beauty salon.
There is a restaurant which serves a buffet breakfast which was very nice, although busy but seating was not a problem.
The restaurant also serves evening meals which we didn't order as we were at a wedding and a bar which serves drinks and snacks at a reasonable price.
There are meeting rooms available and the hotel is available for wedding receptions.
OVERALL
We had an enjoyable two night stay at this hotel and would definitely go back again. The location was peaceful and although we made use of the facilities we didn't have much time to just sit and relax and enjoy the surroundings. It is a little far away from the city centre so I wouldn't recommend it for those wanting to be near to bars, shops and city centre attractions although it is a wonderful location for those who want to explore the are by car and want to stay in a quiet and scenic location as it is in 12 acres of parkland.
The hotel was busy, had a small newsagents shop downstairs, the staff were very friendly and helpful and the food and rooms were good. I have stayed at other Marriott hotels around the UK and find they have a consistently high standard, so I would definitely use them again.

Summary: Nice hotel in a peaceful location perfect for the racecourse.
