Last weekend my partner treated me and took me to see a band called Blind Guardian at the Shepherds Bush Empire London. We wanted a hotel that was close to the venue so while searching the internet we came across The Grantly Hotel which was only five minutes walk to the venue, very handy.
The Grantly Hotel Shepherds Bush London:
I was very excited about having a weekend away with my partner, and The Grantly Hotel rooms looked really nice on their web-site. It is situated in an ideal location; just a few minutes walk from Shepherd's Bush underground station and Goldhawk underground. Close to Hammersmith underground this is a direct link to Heathrow Airport. And the main reason for choosing the hotel was it was only five minutes to the o2 Shepherds Bush Empire.
The web-site stated that the rooms come with en-suites, complimentary toiletries, internet access (at a charge), breakfast, tea/coffee facilities, telephone, television and hair dryer.
Well upon walking to the hotel it looked ok from the outside but the most impressive feature was there black marble stairs which did look rather glamorous just a shame it didn't match up to the rest of the decor. Walking up the stairs it was very clean, sparkling windows and a well panned out reception for the lack of space it was in. So far so good...
Checking In and Checking Out:
My partner pre-booked for the dates required on their web-site which was simple and straight forward to follow; and upon arrival you just give your name then pay when you get their. One thing that wasn't mentioned it was an extra charge of £1 to pay on your debt card which wasn't stated on the web-site when booking; only £1 but still I feel it should have been mentioned.
The lady on reception was very helpful, told us breakfast times, when we had to check out which was 11am the day of departure. She gave us our key to the double room and also a front door key.

Well one word small! When we opened the door and walked into our room we both commented on how small the room actually was, and had the smallest en-suite I had ever seen. You could touch the shower from the bed that's how small and close together everything was.
However as we wasn't staying there to long we didn't mind too much. As I already said the en-suite was quiet tiny which wasn't too bad for me being on five foot four inches; but for my partner who is on the six foot side while sitting on the toilet his knees were pressed against the wall so rather uncomfortable for him.
When looking around the room I also noticed a lot of dirt marks on the walls and doors, and a handle missing on the chest of draws in the room. And on the window ledge inside the room sat a die fly, which you would think they would check the rooms were clean before the guests went in. On the chest of draws there was a flat screen TV and the drink making facilities; which I found a bit dangerous as the kettle was only an inch from the TV which could have been easily knocked over the electrics. There were only enough to make two teas and two coffees.
Once I had been sat in the room for a while I noticed there was no phone, I didn't need to use the phone as I had my mobile but that was stated on their web-site. Another thing that was stated was complimentary toiletries of which there were none only a metal soap dispenser on the wall. On the bed we did get two small towels though!
The hotel was also situated on a very busy road so when sitting in the room you could hear all the cars driving by and the constant sound of horns being honked, it was only round 6pm so I was hoping that come bed time it would be quiet, but the roads were just as busy all through out the night. I don't think the windows in the hotel were double glazed as you really could hear everything so getting a nights sleep was hard work!
As it was rather chilly in our room I tried to put the mini heated on but there doesn't seem to be any in between temperature, it was red hot or nothing.
The bed is always very important to me as it should be clean and comfortable to sleep in, the double bed when pulling the sheets back was clean but did have a slightly stale smell to it. You have a top cover sheet, and brown fleece like sheet and a plain cotton sheet all of which felt a little rough to the touch so good job I had my pj's.
The pillows on the bed were extremely flat so flat that it made no different when lying on them. There was only one pillow each and normally when I've been to hotels they put extra pillows in the wardrobe or cupboards but there were no extras in this room. So we propped them up with the towels.
Getting into bed was ok, never as good as home, bed was firm which was comfortable just a shame the sheets were slightly rough feeling.
Breakfast was served between 7am and 9:30am on offer was.... wait for it... toast, boiled egg, and a selection of jams. They did however also serve one small glass of orange juice and a choice of tea or coffee with your breakfast.
The staff there was very friendly and welcoming, but there is a fair bit of false advertising going on with this hotel. Rooms are small, ours was unclean (maybe that is me being picky) the web-site stated things that wasn't in the room. Also you could hear all traffic from the outside, very little drinking facilities. The only bonus for us was the location; everything we needed was just a few minutes walk.

The Grantly Hotel is 75 years old, and was a former mansion. It has now been tastefully converted to provide you with all you would have expected from a good quality Bed & Breakfast, plus that little bit extra.
