Unfortunately, its never the quality of the surroundings, the quality of the bed or the food that makes a hotel worth staying in, although they are important. What makes a hotel stay enjoyable is the quality of the welcome and service you recieve. When the staff are verging on rude and unhelpful (and thats the "line manager", who obviously had much more importnat things to be doing...) it has a negative impact on your stay. Sadly, this was the case for us. This combined with a small room considering the price (£125.00 per night EXCLUDING breakfast or dinner)excessive noise in the corridor outside and the fact that a 3 star rating would have been more honest ... The Hilton Bath Waterside was previously the Swallow Bath. I was staying there 2 years ago when the Hilton group took over the Swallow group. Last year I visited the hotel twice in March. The first visit was fine the service was great and the facilities were up to their usual excellent standard. Two weeks later I visited the hotel again and it had turned into a Hilton rather than a Swallow. The satellite TV had gone, the restaurant had changed completely and the menu was somewhat dire.
