Advantages: Great location, good breakfast
Disadvantages: Staff don't seem to talk to each other!
My Husband and I recently stayed at this hotel in July 2009 for one night as part of a quick trip to Cardiff, then going on to Bath the next day.
Upon arrival we found that the hotel does not have it's own customer car park and offers valet parking instead, as we are wary of who we let drive our car we decided to park in the public car park further down the road.
We were about an hour early for check in, so we decided to go ahead and see if we would be able to check in early, and were told at reception that they would let housekeeping know we had arrived and that our room would be ready within half an hour.
We had a bit of a wander around, (this hotel is very central to Cardiff) and went back just after half an hour had elapsed only to be told that it still wasn't ready. There was only half an hour left until the standard check in time, so although it may not seem like too much of a big deal (I mean, they don't have to let you in before your check in time!) it was just a bit annoying to be told that it wouldn't be long then told to go away again.
When we finally did get to our room to drop off our luggage, we found it mostly in order, the first thing I always do is check the sheets and the towels to make sure they are clean (I have OCD so have to know my room is clean!) and I found stains on one of the towels, so we phoned down to reception to ask if housekeeping could bring up fresh towels.
We then shortly left for a trip to Cardiff Castle (again very close to the hotel, just over the road!) and to visit the shops before having a meal out.
It seems that at this hotel there is a bit of a communication problem between staff, as when we returned to our room later that evening our towels still had not been changed! We phoned reception again querying our earlier request, who said they would get housekeeping straight onto it and this time our towels arrived promptly, with a comment from the housekeeper that they weren't told earlier!
Breakfast was included in the room price of £114, and was a buffet including hot and cold items. This was very well run, we were greeted at the door to the restaurant and seated swiftly and were brought tea and coffee straight away. There were a good selection of cooked breakfast items as well as cereals and croissants, toast etc.
There were other amenities in the hotel such as a gym but we didn't use any of these.
Overall this was a good stay however it was frustrating that the staff did not seem to pass on requests. If I ever went back to Cardiff I would stay here again but would hope that the communication problem between staff is resolved.
Summary: Lovely hotel, would be nice if staff co-operated.
