I have to admit, my expectations ... more  ... of the place weren't too high.Aside from the train station, it has a large car park and is very convenient. The reception area however began to change my opinion. It is very light and designed with almost an open-plan approach. There is a mezzanine floor for drinks, and everything is subtly done. The decor is a little varied, jumping across different styles, but it somehow works. The food was fantastic, although very dear indeed. The travel writer Bill Bryson has a lovely turn of phrase, and described corporate hotels as being "like offices with beds in; comfortable, yet cold." With the Hilton brand, I expected this to be the case when I attended a wedding there recently. In case you don't know Croydon, it is a vast, ugly, concrete mess with no discernable character to it at all. I can say that because I used to live there.
