I'm back from holiday. So what have I done in the couple of hours since I got back - went to see relatives? Done some washing? No lazed about and then come on Dooyoo. I must be an addict.

I'm going to document my holiday in a way, from this hotel, to the hotel in Frankfurt, and the city in general. So where does this come into the equasion?

Although we do drive, When we fly my dad takes us to the airport, and we return the favour for him, After all it is nice to be driven to the airport and then picked back up again. Unfortunately my dad had a stroke and was told not to fly for a month. This certainly frustrated him, as he loves to get out and drive, and although we could have driven through ourselves, got other family to drive us or since Edinburgh Arport is easily reached by train in approx 40 minutes, then we weren't stuck for options. Also our flight wasn't until 11am, so not a really early check in. We decided to start our holiday early and book this hotel, then head down to the city for some drinks and a nice meal.

This hotel is 1 of 2 situated within the main Airport grounds. To walk to the terminal only would take 3 minutes, but you don't even have to walk, as the Hiton shuttle bus takes you right to the door.

I booked this hotel on www.hotels.com. it is rated as a 4 star hotel, which is the first 4 star i've stayed in. The price I paid was £82 for the 1 night. This was booked in quite short notice, 24 days before we stayed. When I looked on the Hilton website, the same room on the same day was £90, so a bit saving by booking through a 3rd party - a bit strange! For this price of £82 I had a choice of Double Room or Double Deluxe room. Both rooms the same price, but no blurb to say what was different. I phoned the Hilton and was told that the double deluxe was a little bit bigger and had been recently refurbished. So we chose that 1. The price had breakfast included.

Check in was after 3pm, and although we turned up at 2.50pm, we got checked in straight away. The staff on the front desk were nice enough, and i'm not trying to be condescending, but they seemed a bit smarmy and polished. I know it is a Hilton establishement, but anyone and everyone would end up staying here since the location was perfect. So it wasn't all the rich and famous staying here - after all I was there!!!

The hotel is on 3 floors and i'm unsure of how many bedrooms there were. Our room was on theground floor, just a hallway away from the front desk.

Now the impressions of the room - nice.

When you first went into the room the bathroom was on your right hand side. This had a bath, over bath shower and toilet. The sink was set into a long bunker the lenght of the room and the storage was underneath the bunker. I was expecting loads of fluffy white towels, but there were only 3 and they were pretty scratchy feeling. I was impressed by the complimentary toiletries, which were Crabtree & Evelyn. Not just sachets, little mini tubes of Shower Gel, Shampoo, Conditioner, 1 bath tablet, 1 hairnet and 1 facecloth. Although I didn't use the toiletries I took them home, well they were complimentary!

Outside the bathroom was a trouser press and a wardrobe, which also had an ethernet cable hanging up for internet access, even though the room had wifi as well (At a cost of £15.99 per night!)

The bed was - well bed-like. The sheets were crisp and fresh and the duvet nice and cosy. There was also a 2 seater couch in the room. Also there was a desk with 1 chair which had complimentary writing paper and the menus for the restaurant and room service - very expensive.

Along the same wall as the desk and the other wall from the bed was a cabinet, which had drawers and on top was where the tv was. It was an old style tv and I guess 25". Tv channels weren't that good. I would have expected at least freeview, but it was terrestial and a couple of shopping channels. There was also a Playstation 1, Yes a PS1. Would have thought it would have been at least a PS2. Not sure how you found it, we only found the controller, which went into the wall. Surely the computer wasn't hidden in a wall? Who knows! There was also a radio/ alarm clock. We had this on when we were in the room and getting ready in the morning. This was pretty cool. it had the Hilton logo on it, but you were able to plug an mp3 player or i-pod into it as well and it played it through the speakers.

I wasn't too keen on the decor of the room. The bathroom was nice with it's Magnolia wall tiles, ceramic floor tiles and light bathroom suit. Perhaps could have done with a contrast, but nevermind. The carpet in the bedroom was a bottle green colour and 3 of the walls were magnolia coloured with 1 contrasting wall of bottle green colour. The curtains were full lenght - and were striped. the colours were bottle green, pink and yellow - yuk!

We had 1 drink each in the bar, and I wouldn't pay again. To put you in the picture, so you may not think I am a cheap skate. I had just been out in the centre of Edinburgh. My drink cost £1.50 for a Vodka and Red Bull, £3 for a Cocktail and my husband's pint cost £2.10. In the Hilton bar it cost £5 for a single measure of Bacardi and Diet coke, and £3.60 for a pint of Tennets! A very expensive place to drink and 1 where I wouldn't buy anymore drinks!

Now to breakfast. This is the best breakfast i've had in a hotel. i'm sure it will become apparant why soon. We had breakfast booked as part of our room, and I think you can add breakfast onto your room booking for £6 per person at time of booking. If you don't book the breakfast and decide to book when you are their it will cost you £13.95 per person if you are having a cold breakfast, or £17.95 if you are having hot. I'm sure this price will cover you to eat cold as well. What a price!!

So what do you get for that price? Since the breakfast buffet is huge, we better split it into sections.

First section Breads

Croissants
Muffins
Rolls
Cobs
Baguettes
Different slices of bread
Toast
Melba toast

Second section Spreads

Nutella
Jams
Marmalades
Marmite
vegemite
Lemon Curd

Third section

Yogurts
Nuts
Seeds
Loads of different cereals

Forth section

Juices
Waters
Tea
Coffee

Fifth section Hot selection

Eggs
Bacon
Sausages
Black pudding
Haggis
Beans
French toast
Omlates
Pancakes
Mushrooms

So I was very impressed by the breakfast, but I wouldn't pay all that amount for it, as I don't eat so much first thing in the morning. If you could take it with your room or even pay the £6 if you think you could eat more than a couple of rolls, then I highly recommend it, but only you will know if it is worth paying for.

If you are looking to go into Edinburgh City centre, the bus stop is 1 minute walk away and the buses are every 10 minutes up until 11.50pm. The last stop on the bus is Waverly brdge on Princes Street, which is the heart of Edinburgh. This is where you get the bus back again. It costs £3.50 for a single journey, or £6 for a return and takes approx 25 minutes.

So stay over. Would I stay again? I certainly would. Perhaps it is quite expensive, after all my Hotel in Franfurt cost me £45 a night, so this is nearly double, but you will be paying for the location and also the name. it perhaps wasn't as grand as I expected, and perhaps not so bling, but it was a comfortable stay and it was nice and peaceful.
