Advantages: Clean & Spacious
Disadvantages: Hot Hot HOT
I stayed here over a weekend in August.
The hotel is situated on the busy Kilmainham Lane, and is simple to find, being a short distance from Heuston Station. There is a bus from Dublin airport to Heuston, costing around 6 euros. It takes about 45 mins.
Check in was simple and the receptionist friendly, she even gave us an upgrade (usually 30 euro) with no prompting... just to be nice!
Lifts take you up to the rooms. After 10pm you have to use your key card to gain access to the guest floors, i like this added security.
Thanks to the upgrade the room was spacious, we had a bath & separate shower. The hotel provided us with slippers and a dressing gown. Toiletries were plentiful, the Hiltons usual supplier; Crabtree & Evelyn. we had conditioner, shampoo, shower/bath gel, bath tablet, body lotion, soap, shower cap, shoe shine, sewing kits - the shelves were heaving! Personally i don't like this range of products as i find them too drying, but many people do like them. the smell is pleasant enough too.
we had a terrible nights sleep that first night - the room was like a sauna, in fact our entire floor seemed to be stiflingly hot. the air con only went as low as 18C on the dial, and it never got that low in all the time we were there. also on the junction outside there was a minor accident at half 4 in the morning and one of the girls was hysterical! the hotel staff merely peered at them. personally i felt they should have brought some blankets out to them as this would have helped the shock, and the police and ambulance took about 15 mins to arrive. i doubt i was the only person woken up.
Breakfast was dissapointing - i have stayed in many Hiltons and this was by far the smallest breakfast room, there didn't seem to be a breakfast chef, which i thought was standard for Hilton. The selection of items also seemed to be smaller than usual.
We weren't very demanding off the staff, but they were always courteous.
The room was a good specification, and bright and clean.
The hotel is about a 30 min walk to the St Stephens Green, it is a nice walk and you can really see how the city is changing. You can just get a tram from Heuston - buy your ticket before boarding!
The main thing that brings the rating to 2 stars is the almost unbearable heat that greets you on the guest floors. I really did not sleep well due to this for 3 nights.
Summary: Go in winter!
