Hilton Hotel (Southampton)
Advantages: Clean room, friendly helpful staff
Disadvantages: Food not very good
My husband and I stayed for one night at this hotel at the end of April this year. The next day we were going on a week long cruise from Southampton docks.
The Hilton Southampton is situated at Bracken Place, Chilworth Southampton. It has 96 guest bedrooms, one restaurant, one bar and a Living Well Health Club which includes indoor pool, gym and sauna.
Many of the guest bedrooms are on the ground floor so this may be helpful for those travellers who have mobility problems.
We tried various different websites for prices for this hotel, our criteria was bed and breakfast and 7 nights parking, we were not concerned about evening meals etc.
The Hilton website was very expensive with room only and 7 nights parking costing £199. Most other websites we checked beat the Hilton website price. We finally booked the stay through Superbreak. The total cost was £150.00 and this included bed and breakfast, 7 days parking and a 3 course meal in the restaurant. We were really happy with the price especially since it included breakfast and an evening meal.
On arrival at the hotel we were allocated our room and given directions to the restaurant. Check in was painless, lady was very polite and helpful.
Our room was situated on the second floor, there was a lift but we decided to take the stairs as it was only one flight. On entering the room it was large in size, it had a king size bed and ensuite bathroom. There was no mini bar, although there were tea and coffee making facilities.
Every part of the room was clean and the bed proved to be very comfortable with good quality bed linen.
The bathroom had everything we needed and there was plenty of hot water. I was very happy with the room.
We had a quick swim in the indoor pool, this was also a good expereince. Staff were again helpful and they provided us with towels and directed us to the changing area. The pool itself was good, very clean and the water was not too cold, quite large for an indoor pool and not overcrowed, my husband and I were the only people in it.
After our nice swim we decided on a shower and then we would have the free meal. Service in the restaurant was efficient. The meal was from a special set menu. The menu had a choice of 3 starters, 3 mains and 3 desserts. The meal was served quite quickly and I can honestly say my husband and I were of the same opinion - quite awful!!! Lukewarm soup, very bland hard meat and a dessert that was a disgrace to serve. At this point I was just very glad of the reasonable price I had paid for the booking!
Had a drink in the bar, nearly £10 for a glass of white wine and a pint of lager - thought this would be about the cost as Hilton bars are always quite expensive.
Had a good nights sleep with no noise etc coming from other rooms. Breakfast in the morning was buffet style, hot items were not as hot as they should have been and really there was not much choice. All edible and lots of hot tea and coffee.
Checkout was a breeze, again friendly and helpful. Collecting our car from the Hilton carpark after our Cruise was also fine - very efficient staff and our car was exactly where we had left it in the car park.
Overall we had a comfortable stay and the only downside of the whole stay was the meal. We paid a good price for the booking and if we cruise again from Southampton we will use this hotel again.
Summary: Good for a Pre-Cruise stay!
