This is the second review in my series unofficially titled "Hilton Hotels with rather unappealing names". Following my recent review of the "Hilton Dartford Bridge", the "Hilton Docklands" was just crying out for a visit and that is precisely where Amanda, baby Josh and I found ourselves this St Valentine's night on what was a very attractively priced two-night break. To the uninitiated, London Docklands might sound pretty horrible. Images of huge industrial wharves, run-down slums and social problems are actually totally mis-placed and this is actually a part of London which has clearly undergone a very successful hip ... As a surprise for new year, my boyfriend booked us the Hilton Docklands to stay in. It was a bit of a hassle to get to from Liverpool street but we managed fine. From the train station they have a curtosy shuttle running every fifteen minutes going straight to the hotel, that was good as the taxi would have cost a fortune. On arrival, there were a few problems with the rooms which I did not expect from such a high class establishment but after a while it all got sorted out, they were very polite considering I was angry that they had made this mistake but finally we got a room on the top floor with the most amazing view, the river looked amazing at night. I booked this Hotel after searching greatly online for somewhere to stay for the New Year. I originally looked at Travelodges and Premier Inns thinking they would be the cheaper options, but these rooms werent easy to get to, very basic and went quickly! I was getting a bit worried that I wouldnt be able to find a place, but after looking on lastminute.com I found that they did something called secret hotels. After sussing out that the secret hotel was this one, I booked it for £85 for the night of New Year. I thought, for a 4* Hilton in London on New Year this was a brilliant price, compared to some of the Travelodges priced between £70-£100. I ... Read the complete review

I booked this hotel over the phone via a deal from teletext (£159 for 2 people b&b and dinner on the 1st night). The hotel runs a shuttle service from the nearest tube station which is handy as its quite a way away from the hotel. When we arrived i thought the enterance and reception areas were a little tired and boring looking. The staff were pleasent though and we got our room key. The room was a real disappointment - tiny (you could barely fit a double bed in), cramped bathroom with poor facilities and the view was appalling - straight onto a block of flats. This was definately the worst hotel room ive stayed in for the ... Read the complete review

I had never heard of the Hilton London Docklands before I had booked, but ended up having two fantastic days in late February this year. The Hilton London Docklands is built directly opposite Canary Wharf on the other side of the Thames, an area of massive redevelopment. Out of London this area has still got a reputation of being rough, but in reality in now consists of expensive townhouses and Luxury apartments. The hotel itself has well over 800 rooms and is split into three wings. Me and my partner had booked a double room, but discovered that it looked more like a large studio flat, considering the price of property in London these days, I was ... Read the complete review
