Hilton (London Kensington)
Advantages: great location
This hotel is in a great location in central London. It is only a short walk (not even 5 minutes) gets you to the new ubermall Westfield and the Shepherd's Bush tube station on the Central line and the main line station. A short walk in the other direction takes you to Holland Park tube station, again on the central line, and further on Notting Hill (only about a 15 minute walk). Another 10 minute walk from the hotel and you are at Olympia and High Street Kensington and tube stations on the district and circle lines.
The Hilton Kensington is part of the Hilton chain and you can earn through their loyalty scheme Hilton Honour points on any stays here.
I have stayed in this hotel on many occasions when in London for both work and pleasure and have always found it to be a good base.
The hotel is reasonably modern with a large lobby area with plenty of seating and a bar area with Costa Coffee. If you are checking in or out at popular times be warned you could be waiting a while and unfortunately they have never had a room ready for me when I have checked in a bit early even when I have previously requested an early check in, I think this could be perhaps due to the fact that they have such a high occupancy and turnover rate at the hotel. One word about the receptionists, they are not I find the friendliest or perhaps most charming I have come across and I tend to find them often quite brusque and sometimes rude.
The hotel is nice probably a 3 to maybe 4 star hotel in my view. The facilities include a restaurant, which I have only ever used for breakfast, when it is included in my stay. The breakfast has a good buffet which includes a good variety of hots and colds, fruits, cereals and pastries. Also available in your room is a comprehensive in room dining menu that caters for most tastes and needs, throughout the day. If breakfast is not included I would recommend walking along towards Holland Park Tube station where there is plenty of cafes and coffee shops who do fab breakfasts.
The hotel has a gym which is opened 24 hours a day and has a variety of cardiovascular equipment, weight machines and a selection of free weights. There is also a sauna and steam room for some relaxation after a workout and towels and mineral water is provided in the gym.
There is also for anyone staying at the hotel on business a handy business centre which is also open 24 hours a day and offers a variety of business services and assistance (some with a fee attached).
The rooms aren't huge, but by London standards they are not bad. All rooms come with reasonably comfy beds, a flat screen TV, tea and coffee making facilities and in room safe. The bathroom is fairly standard with a bath and shower and Crabtree & Evelyn toiletries.
The price varies dependant on the season and whats on but it is roughly around the £80 - £90 and upwards mark per room per night. You can also get offers on stays at Hilton's on a regular basis so it is worth checking out their website for any special deals available.
This hotel is in a great location close to Westfield and plenty of good restaurants and cafes as well as the all important tube stations. It is in a nice neighbourhood which is reasonably quiet and is a great location to base yourself for a stay in London whether it be for work or pleasure.
Summary: Fab location!
