My partner and I stayed at the Holiday Inn which is located in North Wales, near Mould off of the A55 in November 2009 for two nights. This is our first to a Holiday Inn and I must say I was impressed. The Hotel was a quite far from Chester town center but a cab was only £5.00 from the hotel into town.
On arrival the reception staff were very welcoming, helpful and considerate even though we did arrive very late in the evening. They were very helpful in explaining breakfast and dinner options and also room service although we did not use these facilities as we went to see friends. They also gave us information on local places of interest and pointed us in the direction of our room which was easy to locate.
The room was quite large in size with a very comfortable double bed. The Samsung air-conditioning unit was excellent. The bath room was very clean and nicely decorated with a powerful shower. Soaps, shampoo and shower gel is provided for free in the bath room. Towels were replaced each day.
In the room we had an iron and ironing board, a kettle with tea, coffee or hot chocolate. There was also a hairdryer and a television.
Although you are on the motorway as long as you keep the windows closed you can not hear the traffic outside.
There is ample amount of parking outside the hotel and also on the hotels lay-by is a diner, Costa, McDonalds and a petrol station.
We paid £100 for two nights direct with Holiday Inn.
The only problem we had was finding the Hotel as the sat nav kept trying to send us down a slip road to the Hotel which wasn't there so we spent 45 minutes driving around in circles.
All in all we enjoyed our stay at this hotel and we will be returning again this year due to the friendly and welcoming staff. I just feel they need to sign post the Hotel so it is easy to find.
I recently stayed at the Holiday Inn Chester West whilst visiting friends and family in North Wales. I was very impressed with this roadside hotel and felt that the hotel exceeded in providing comfortable and pleasant accomodation their customers.
On arrival, I was greeted with a friendly smile, provided with information regarding the local area, meal times and given clear directions to both my room, the restaurant and the gym so that I was aware of where the facilities were. Whilst walking to my room which was located on the first floor, I noticed how clean and tidy the hotel appeared throughout and how quite it also seemed. The car park had been pretty full outside however their seemed to be no hustle and bustle inside and the bar and lounge area seemed very quiet.
My room was very pleasant with all the mod cons and amenities I would expect from a hotel. The room had modern decor and was very large and spacious which was more than adequate for just my partner and I. The bathroom was large and clean and had a nice dressing area which had plenty of space for my partners belongings. The room had a nice view of their gardens at the rear of the hotel and despite being situated next to a dual carriageway, I couldnt actually hear any noise from the road outside.
In the evening we dined in the restaurant and were very impressed with both the service and the quality of food. The meal prices were more than reasonable and very delicious too. A three course meal with a couple of soft drinks each came to just over £25 and in all honesty was actually probably one of the nicest meals I have had. The bar service was always very quick, prompt and polite and again their prices seemed very reasonable for a hotel chain.
Overall this is a great hotel in an ideal location to explore North Wales. Our room cost us £69 bed and breakfast and we had a really enjoyable stay. I would not hesitate in recommending this hotel.
The Holiday Inn Chester West is located just off the A55 west by Northop Hall in North Wales. It is easily visible from the road and has good access. There is a large car park which is also capable of accomodating coaches and located nearby is an OK diner and a Mcdonalds restaurant.
Arrival - The hotel has a welcoming entrance area with a water fountain at the entrance. There is seating in the small lobby area where you can sit whilst waiting to check in. The reception staff are very friendly and willing to assist you with any queries you have. There is a board to the right hand side of the reception desk on the wall which will advise where any functions or weddings are being held within the hotel, great idea for those customers visiting for this purpose, and a good idea for other residents as it gives them an idea of which places to avoid. The rececption area is decorated nicely with neutral colours, fresh flowers and it is very clean. On check in you will given directions as to how to get to your room and provided with your room card. Check in is from 2pm, however if the room is ready they will often let you in early. The average room rate here is £69 for a standard double or £79 for an executive room. If you are getting married here or holding another type of event you can get a discount for your guests of £10 so you will then be charged £59 for a standard room and £69 for an executive room. There are also disabled rooms available on the ground floor which offer low baths and extra space. If you are getting married here yourself then the bride and groom get complimentary use of the bridal suite.
Weddings - I myself got married here in October 2005. The staff are very helpful and work hard to make your day very special and according to the plans you have discussed with their wedding co-ordinator. I didnt like the first wedding co-ordinator which we had as she seemed to have her own ideas about our wedding and wasnt that interested in hearing my own ideas. She also didnt like it when I suggested things such as having the wedding speeches before our sit down meal as she believed that they should take place after. I really had to argue the point that this was about what WE wanted and not what SHE wanted. Having got nowhere with this wedding co-ordinator we were provided with a meeting with the Functions manager. This meeting was a lot better and she was great. The original wedding co-ordinator has now also been replaced so that should prevent the same problem happening for others. Anyway we had this meeting with the functions manager to discuss our initial needs, book a date and look through the various wedding packages that they offer. There charges do change from peak season weddings April 1st to September 30th to off peak 1st October to March 31st. We originally wanted to get married at the end of September but to see that for a couple of days we could save ourselves upto £500 we chose October 1st instead. There are two rooms for weddings to take place. The larger of the rooms is the Vivaldi Suite and can cater for a large amount of guests. This is where we got married. The room is nicely decorated and the seats are laid out with red carpet down the centre. There are fresh flowers located down the aisle and on the desk at the front of the service where the register is placed. The smaller room is the conservatory and this caters for parties of less than 50. After the ceremony the partition in the Vivaldi Suite is removed to make the suite double the size this is where we had our sit down meal and evening buffet and entertainment. When organising your wedding you are provided with numerous options for your wedding breakfast, your buffet and your drinks packages. Each package is explained clearly and you are provided with a price per person so it is easy to calculate costs. Final numbers need to be with the hotel 2 weeks prior to the event and you do not get any refunds for any no shows, however this is the case at most hotels. The staff are very professional throughout the service and evening. Additional entertainment is also available for children and you can arrange to have a bouncy castle or a childrens entertainer to keep the kids occupied. At the end of the ceremony all guests are provided with bucks fizz or orange juice and guests are directed outside to have photographs taken. There is a small garden at the rear of the Vivaldi Suite which is suitable for photos and has plenty of room to fit guests in. Confetti is permitted also as long as it is outside. The room was decorated fantastically for the wedding breakfast and we had fresh flowers and balloons on all tables. We also had wedding confetti on the tables, however I have been told that this is no longer allowedd as it was damaging the washing machines. The bar in the Vivaldi Suite remains open until 2am and after that anyone still requiring drinks needs to move to the main hotel bar which is open til 3am. The bridal suite is provided complimentary for the happy couple and is beatifully arranged. There is ample space and the bed is located up several stairs overlooking the lounge and dining area. This looked really nice though I found it a little difficult to manage the stairs after a full day of champagne and wine!! The bathroom is magnificient and there is a large bath surrounded by glass panels with power shower. Huge space and immaculate inside. The room is so clean and well maintained and is nicely decorated. There are two sofas, coffee table, dining table and chairs for six people, television, tea and coffee making faciilties and heated towel rails.
Rooms - All the rooms are decorated beautifully and feature modern decor. They feature the usual amenities such as tea and coffee and a television, hairdryer etc. The executive rooms also have the benefit of a whirlpool bath. The rooms are easily accessible and there are a number of disabled rooms located on the ground floor. Rooms are available on a room only or a bed and breakfast basis.
Facilities - There is a fantastic restaurant, well stocked bar and a well presented gym. There is conferencing facilities and rooms available for functions and meetings. When I last stayed there was no internet access however I believe they are currently in the process of installing wifi, however this would be best confirmed by contacting the hotel.
Overall this is a fantastic hotel for those wishing to explore the North Wales area, for people wishing to hold a meeting, function or event and is ideally situated for road and business users simply requiring a one night stopover. The rooms are well priced and the staff are very efficient and professional at all times. I would highly recommend this hotel.

Holiday Inn Chester West is situated in North Wales, at Northop Hall, near Mold, just off the A55. [So, not in Chester at all, but I'm sure you'll agree that "Holiday Inn Chester West" has a better chance of selling itself than "Holiday Inn Mold"!]
The hotel is on three floors and was renovated in 2003. Interestingly, the hotel is owned by a local company which runs it as a franchise from Holiday Inn. On the whole, we got the impression that the staff were friendlier than usual for a Holiday Inn - this may be due to the different management structure.
There are 81 rooms. We stayed as a family; usually we would have a double bed and a sofa-bed the children. On this occasion, though, the room had two double beds which was more comfy [especially for the children!]. When booking, you are offered the choice of a two double-bed room or one with a sofa-bed.
The room had a kettle and tea and coffee facilities; there was a minibar, which on this occasion was empty. I'm sure if this was usual, or if it had been emptied as a family was in the room. It wasn't a problem for us - I often ask for the minibar to be locked to prevent the children accidentally moving an item and getting charged. There is a TV, which had Sky Sports in the rooms. There was free wi-fi internet access throughout the hotel [considering the hotel I staying in last week charged £15 per day for internet access, this was excellent value]. I'd taken a laptop with us, and it was very easy to connect to the system.
The bathroom was a generous size, and included a shower in the bath.
The hotel doesn't have a pool. There were signs for a gym: we didn't use this so I can't comment on it directly.
This Holiday Inn has a "kids eat free" offer, which helps to reduce the cost of eating in as this can be expensive otherwise. This even works if you just order a bar meal: on one night we four had a one-course meal with drinks for £20.
Breakfast took the usual buffet form where you can choose from fruits, cereals and the traditional eggs, bacon, sausages etc. It was possible to order extras such as poached eggs and smoked haddock [my sons thought I was bonkers to order fish for breakfast!]. Breakfast was excellent on the first two days; on the third day the staff were different and it didn't seem to quite so efficient
The hotel is just off the A55. You approach it travelling west and it's about 9 miles from Chester. It shares an exit with a petrol station, a McDonalds, a Costa and an American-style diner. Because the A55 is a dual carriageway, you have to continue west when leaving the hotel before you can make a U-turn.
We stayed for three nights in the week after Easter: one night was £62 and the other two were £52 [all to include breakfast for the four of us]. For about £85 [depending on the date], you can get a combined deal which includes a family ticket to Chester Zoo [value £37.50 to £50.00 depending in the season] which seems good value.
