Advantages: great central location, nice friendly staff, good prices.
Disadvantages: None for whay you pay for.
We were taking our little boy to Legoland for his birthday and thought it would be a nice idea to stay in a hotel for a couple of nights to make it a mini holiday.
I looked on the internet to find the best deals and prices as budget was a key factor, the hotels in Windsor were asking well over £100 per night which was a little more than we wanted to pay. I then stumbled across this little gem, it is not in Windsor but in Slough which is about 4 miles from legoland. I couldn't believe the price £59 per night for a family room, including breakfast but they had a promotion on buy one night get one free. So I got two nights on an august weekend for under £60. What a Bargain.
The hotel is right next door to Slough mainline train station, it is extremely central 10 mins walk to slough town centre and one stop on the train to go into Windsor. Here is my experience ...
On arrival - we found the hotel easily after initially going to the wrong one, there are two Holiday inns in Slough, one is Express so best to check which one you are staying in before you go.
We arrived fairly late at about 9:30 after a full day at Legoland and Mcdonalds stop off on the way, there were no parking spaces at all. There was a sign saying you could park in the station car park for £7.50 per 24hrs but tickets would expire at midnight ??? The only other option was a small car park about ten mins walk away.
When we finally arrived back at the hotel we were greeted by a lovely smiley lady who took our name and we did all the usual formalities. She then gave us our room card and explained what time breakfast was, when dinner is served etc.
The room - The room was lovely and clean, it had a large double bed and a double sofa bed all made up in crisp white linen.
It was pretty much standard, desk, tv, bedside cabinet. It had a hairdryer and tea and coffee making facilities and two large mirrors.
The bathroom was small with a shower cubical, toilet and sink unit.
The room was in good repair, no smells, damage or stains.
Excellent quality for the price we had paid.
Breakfast - This was a bit of a free for all, the breakfast area is tiny compared to the number of rooms they have, both days we had to wait quite a while to sit down.
The breakfast is a continental self service buffet, there is cereal, toast, fruit, and several different cakes and pastries. There is tea, coffee and hot chocolate. There is also cold apple, orange, grapefruit and tropical juices.
All the food was nice but the setting was squashed and uncomfortable.
Overall - This is what it says in the name - Express, it is geared for short business and leisure stays. There is no pool, gym, dining room, no fancyness just brilliant prices, excellent location and friendly staff.
Summary: A brilliant hotel for visiting legoland and Windsor.

- 03/11/09 It is handy for the station - I generally stay at the other Holiday inn on my business trips to sunny slough, but I think for family trips the express with the inclusive breakfast is the better option! |
