The Express by Holiday Inn at West end, Southampton is located just on the outskirts of Southampton M27, junction 7. It is situated adjacent to the Rose Bowl, home of Hampshire cricket and also Hampshire Health & Tennis Club.

I recently booked into this hotel due to renovation works being carried out on my house. I have stayed at other budget hotels in the past including Travelodge and Premier Inn so I thought I would give this one a try. I was pleasantly surprised by the value for money offered from this budget hotel. The room was reasonably priced at £59 per room, which included breakfast. Unfortunately, I had not made an advance booking and was therefore offered a single room.

My room was furnished with two single beds, plenty of storage units, hanging space, several waste bins (which are always handy) a desk/workspace with a desk light, spare pillows & towels & bed linen, a good size TV, well stocked tea/coffee making facilities, hairdryer etc In my opinion, the bed was made more comfortable by the fact it had a thick, cosy duvet on it which made for a very restful night's sleep. I noted there was also WI-FI internet connection.

I have read others reviews describing the facilities and rooms as 'basic' however, I did not find this to be the case. I have stayed in many four star hotels which haven't been anywhere near as clean, comfortable and so well facilitated as this.

My only complaint would be no bath. Having said that the shower area was spacious with a good power shower and the bathroom altogether new, bright and absolutely spotlessly clean.. which makes a nice change!

As far as budget hotels go this has to be one of the best. In fact my experiences staying at other budget hotels have not been anything like as pleasant.
