My husband and I spent three nights at this hotel in September 2010. We chose it because of it's reasonable rate and leisure club.
I booked through laterooms.com a few weeks beforehand and got a slightly better deal than I would have done had I booked directly at the same time. The process was fairly quick and simple.
We were able to take advantage of the advance purchase rate which worked out at about £53 per night for the two of us. The downside to this deal is that there is a two night minimum stay and no refund.
As we stayed from Friday to Monday when the hotel is not in heavy demand by business travellers the rate was lower.
The room was small but not cramped. We had a comfy bed with two pillows each (one firm and one soft), a wardrobe, drawers, desk, mirrors, a hairdryer, TV and complimentary tea/coffee making facilities. The bathroom was small but well equipped with a bath, shower, WC and shaver socket. There was also air conditioning which we did not use. My only gripe about the room was the inability to connect to the hotel's wi-fi network on my laptop but staff were very helpful and let me use the business centre instead.
Food and drink
Breakfast consisted of a hot and cold buffet with staff serving tea and coffee to guests. There were about 4 different choices of cereal plus a variety of fruit, yogurt, cold meat and bread rolls each day as well as a 'do it yourself' toaster. I did not actually sample the hot breakfast but my husband was satisfied with it. Service by the staff was good with them showing us to tables and promptly fetching decent sized pots of tea or coffee.
We had one evening meal at the hotel as part of our deal. This was a 3 course meal at a set price and (other than the soup) was self service. There was not a massive amount of choice but enough to suit most tastes and the food was of good quality. Drinks cost extra and were served to us at the table.
As with a lot of hotels, drinks and bar snacks were over priced when compared to a pub or cafe. I would recommend the Old George pub at the opposite side of the roundabout where we ate on two of the evenings and with which we were very impressed.
Guests are entitled to use the leisure club which has a gymnasium, pool, sauna and steam room. I was somewhat disappointed that the steam room was out of order during our visit but had an enjoyable dip in the pool whilst hubby had a sauna. There is a drinking fountain on the pool side which dispenses ice cold water but it is advisable to bring your own bottle. Towels are provided by the leisure club.
The hotel is situated near to the motorway network and has a car park. Garforth station is about a mile away with frequent trains to Leeds, Selby and York. Buses to Leeds run from opposite the Old George pub across the roundabout.
We travelled on public transport and it couldn't have been easier to get to Leeds by bus with the 166 and 163 buses running every 15 minutes. We walked to the station to catch a train to York and whilst it's not too bad a walk the bus will take you most of the way. Buses are reasonably priced and a taxi to the station cost £3.40. Rover tickets are also available but they are not valid for travel to York.
Apart from a couple of hiccups the trip went well and we enjoyed ourselves. We would stay there again.
I visited this hotel a couple of weeks ago with my Husband as we needed somewhere to stop overnight while travelling.
I've never stayed at a Holiday Inn before so had no idea what to expect.
When we arrived the outside looked similar to most other chain hotels, nothing special. However when we entered the lobby area I was very surprised. It was decorated in a very modern and contemporary style with some really nice photos and artwork on the wall and light fittings that I liked so much I wanted to take them home with me.
Check in was simple, I had made my reservation over the phone a few weeks before we arrived and just had to give my name and they handed over the room key.
I was not so impressed with the room. I couldn't believe how small it was. I had booked a double room and originally we were going to bring our daughter so had asked for a cot which they said would be no problem. In the end we left our daughter with my parents so didn't need the cot. I'm so glad as I really don't know where they would have put it. There was just enough room to walk around the edge of the bed but you had to squeeze past the desk that was in the corner. There was a TV one top of a chest of drawers with just enough room to open the drawers. There was also a wardrobe in another corner. It had all the features you would expect but crammed into a tiny space. There was no room to spread out at all.
The bathroom was bright and would have been nice if it had been cleaner. I couldn't bare to go anywhere near the bath, there was mould between the tiles on the floor and walls and rust running down the wall from the handle over the bath. It just needed a bit of TLC.
We ate in the restaurant that night and could not fault the food at all. It was delicious and I would highly recommend it. Plus it wasn't too pricey.
They also have a health club which is free to use if you are staying there. We tried out the pool, steam room and sauna. The pool was rather small and at one point when there was 5 of us in there we had to co-ordinate our laps so we didn't crash into eachother. All in all though it was a good little place and worth a free visit.
However, I'm not sure if I would try Holiday Inn again just because of the size of the room. I've stayed in lots of Travelodges over the years and their rooms are so much large with lots of room to spread out. So I would probably rather stay in one of those instead.
Located on the outskirts of Leeds, the Holiday Inn - Leeds Garforth is a hotel I stayed in with my partner a few weeks ago, when visiting Leeds. I will also mention that this hotel is also situated approx 40 mins from York.
The hotel is situated just off the roundabout at the A642 and A63 at Garforth. It is easily accesible from the M1, if you leave at junction 46 and take the A63 eastbound.
I normally prefer to stay at Express by Holiday Inn hotels instead of actual Holiday Inns as I prefer them overall and breakfast is included in the price, which is not the case with Holiday Inn. However, the Express by Holiday Inn was full, so we opted for this hotel instead. I booked online and used my Priority Club Reward points to pay for this stay, so it was a free night.
I have explained in earlier reviews of Express by Holiday Inns, about their really good rewards scheme where you receive points for each stay which you can save and redeem for free nights amongst other things. Also being a member of the scheme gives you some priorites such as priority check in, newspapers, extended check in/out times etc. It is free to join and full details are available on the website. I would recommend it to anyone who stays at any of the hotels in the ICG hotel group.
I have redeemed my points for a few free nights over the last few years.
Checking in at the hotel was quick and easy, and we made our way to our room. It did seem to be quite a walk to our room which was along some corridors and up some stairs.
On entering the room I noticed it was smaller than rooms at Express by Holiday Inn hotels, but it was adequate. It was also very clean. The decor and furnishings not as modern as Express by Holiday Inn but nothing I would complain about, as all perfectly functional.
There was a large double bed made up with crisp white bed linen, en suite bathroom with bath and overhead shower, tea/coffee making facilities, wardrobe hanging space, hairdryer, TV, telephone and a small workspace.
There was two small bottles of complimentary water, a small bottle of britvic orange juice and a Mars bar!
The bed was quite comfy and four pillows provided. The shower was also good so no complaints there. Small complimentary toiletries were provided and plenty of towels.
All guests are given free access to the Triangle health club which is located within the hotel, and includes a small 9 metre swimming pool, gym, steam room and sauna. We did not use the health facilities during our stay as we were not there long enough but it did seem popular.
The Aiolis bar and restaurant within the hotel offers a full a la carte menu as well as lighter meals. If you do not wish to eat in the restaurant and are only having a light meal you may prefer to eat in the lounge area.
Room service is also an option and a menu is available in all the guest rooms, with light meals, sandwiches and pies available.
We browsed the restaurant menu in our room and the a la carte menu seemed quite expensive.
Sirloin steak was £15.50 and a bottle of Flat Rock Zinfandel £16. There was quite a lot of choice on the menu including ravioli, sea bass, tuna and rack of lamb. Starters included smoked salmon and chicken skewers and prices started at around £5.50.
We decided to go for the carvery menu which we thought was the better option as two courses were £17.95 which was more affordable, and enjoyed leek and potato soup followed by roast beef and yorshire puddings. The meal was nice and we had no room for dessert. At £19.95 for three courses it's not a bad price to pay if you have room for all three!
We noticed a pub which served meals was just across the road if you want an alternative to eating in the hotel.
We spent a comfortable quiet night at this hotel and did not have breakfast the next morning, as I can never really face food on a morning. We did have a latte coffee before checking out and these were £3.00 each, which considering the cup was small, £6 for two coffees is quite expensive I think.
Room rates are approx £48 per night which is good value considering you have free access to the leisure club. As I said earlier, our night was free, but I would be quite happy to pay £48 per night at this hotel.
I found the staff to be polite, friendly and helpful and had no complaints during my stay. I would be happy to stay there again.
We stayed at the Holiday Inn Leeds Garforth for one night on Saturday 30th March 2008 as an overnight stopover on the way up to Darlington for my friend's wedding the next day. We chose this hotel because of its location, the late check-out time and because it looked alright from the website.
The Holiday Inn Leeds Garforth is a 4 star hotel located in a quiet rural location on the outskirts of Leeds. It has 144 rooms situated over 2 floors, the majority of which are non-smoking. It has plenty of parking spaces in a well lit car park and parking is free, we had no problem finding a space. It has a health centre with swimming pool which we didn't have time to use, a business center, bar and restaurant, and 24 hour room service. Check in is from 3pm and check out is at 12 noon. Rooms start from £53 but are more likely to cost nearer £80. We paid £60 not including breakfast for a Saturday night in March.
The Holiday Inn Leeds Garforth is located about 6 miles east of Leeds city centre. It is minutes away from junctions 46 and 47 of the M1 and close to the A1(M) and the M62. The hotel is located on the roundabout where the A63 and the A642 cross. On the other side of the roundabout there is a Beefeater. Garforth train station is roughly a mile from the hotel.
Check-in was quick and the lady on the desk was pleasant and helpful. There were no queues and the hotel lobby was spacious and modern. Our room was located on the first floor and was a bit of a walk from the lobby.
The room was small but perfectly formed so to speak. It contained two single beds, which I was happy about as I was expecting a double. Having a king size bed at home I hate having to share a double. The room was clean and modern looking and nicely decorated. Along with the twin beds there was an arm chair, satellite TV, desk with chair, mirror, tea & coffee making equipment, wardrobe, air con, and a hairdryer. It wasn't the most spacious of rooms but was just fine for an overnight stop. The beds were comfortable and the pillows were alright. I always take my own pillow anyway but Holiday Inns have a pillow menu so you can pick the right pillow for you, which I think is brilliant. The curtains fitted the window so the room was nice and dark to sleep in and the room was a pleasant temperature. The room wasn't in a noisy location and I wasn't disturbed by people in the corridors in the morning. Overall a very good nights sleep.
The bathroom was also compact but clean and not at all tired looking. It had a small bath with a shower, toilet, sink, mirror and shaver socket. It was functional. The shower itself was very powerful so it didn't take too long to wash my hair and there was plenty of hot water and the temperature didn't fluctuate. The towels weren't the softest but were alright. As usual they only give you two hand towels and two bath towels so I did my usual trick of pinching another fresh bath towel from one of the maids trolley on the way back from breakfast.
We arrived at the hotel at about 8 pm and were starving. We dumped our stuff in the room and went down to the Aioli Restaurant to get some food. We ended up ordering from the lounge bar menu as I was tired and couldn't be doing with a proper meal. The bar was fairly busy but there were still tables free. I had curry and it was very nice, the food was hot and well presented. Dinner for two with drinks cost £31.
Breakfast was served in the Aioli Restaurant. We did our usual thing of going down half an hour before the end and there was plenty of space. There was a huge selection of items to choose from, they had pretty much everything you could want. The cooked food looked fresh and appetising, there was a huge choice of cereals, juices, fruit etc. They would even cook eggs fresh to your liking, so you could request a pancake or scrambled eggs from the waitress. The staff were friendly and attentive, the atmosphere was relaxed and all in all breakfast was excellent.
Check out was quick and straight forward, even though we checked out at noon we didn't have to queue. I think there is an option to check out during breakfast which would be handy if you were in a rush. The girl on the desk was cheery and helpful. In total our stay including dinner and breakfast cost us £99, not bad really.
This hotel is very good if you consider it as a motorway hotel, I mean it's not the Ritz or anything. I would definitely consider staying here again. The hotel also has a health club but we didn't use this due to the nature of our stay so I can't comment on this area. The hotel is very conveniently located for the M1 and A1(M), the rooms are modern and clean, and have everything you could need, the hotel itself is very contemporarily styled (ignoring the outside, very sixties). The staff are pleasant and helpful, the food is good and overall it is a very good hotel. No complaints.
