Advantages: Lovely restaurant

Disadvantages: Room was way too small

I visited this hotel a couple of weeks ago with my Husband as we needed somewhere to stop overnight while travelling.

I've never stayed at a Holiday Inn before so had no idea what to expect.

When we arrived the outside looked similar to most other chain hotels, nothing special. However when we entered the lobby area I was very surprised. It was decorated in a very modern and contemporary style with some really nice photos and artwork on the wall and light fittings that I liked so much I wanted to take them home with me.

Check in was simple, I had made my reservation over the phone a few weeks before we arrived and just had to give my name and they handed over the room key.

I was not so impressed with the room. I couldn't believe how small it was. I had booked a double room and originally we were going to bring our daughter so had asked for a cot which they said would be no problem. In the end we left our daughter with my parents so didn't need the cot. I'm so glad as I really don't know where they would have put it. There was just enough room to walk around the edge of the bed but you had to squeeze past the desk that was in the corner. There was a TV one top of a chest of drawers with just enough room to open the drawers. There was also a wardrobe in another corner. It had all the features you would expect but crammed into a tiny space. There was no room to spread out at all.

The bathroom was bright and would have been nice if it had been cleaner. I couldn't bare to go anywhere near the bath, there was mould between the tiles on the floor and walls and rust running down the wall from the handle over the bath. It just needed a bit of TLC.

We ate in the restaurant that night and could not fault the food at all. It was delicious and I would highly recommend it. Plus it wasn't too pricey.

They also have a health club which is free to use if you are staying there. We tried out the pool, steam room and sauna. The pool was rather small and at one point when there was 5 of us in there we had to co-ordinate our laps so we didn't crash into eachother. All in all though it was a good little place and worth a free visit.

However, I'm not sure if I would try Holiday Inn again just because of the size of the room. I've stayed in lots of Travelodges over the years and their rooms are so much large with lots of room to spread out. So I would probably rather stay in one of those instead.

Summary: Ok for one night
