My partner, son and I decided that one weekend we would take ourselves off for a stay in a hotel somewhere in the country. We decided on Leicester-we didn't go there for any particular reason, but thought 'why not'. The hotel itself is located three miles outside of Leicester city centre, just off junction 21 of the M1. The hotel is also 25 miles from Nottingham East Midlands Airport. Facilities at the hotel are secure parking (but without the multi-story car park), which costs £5 per night. Within the hotel, there is one bar, one restaurant, a business centre (with ten meeting rooms, accommodating from two to 150 people) and a health club which has a gym and a swimming pool (this is free for hotel guests to use). The hotel is 100% non-smoking. Check-in is 3 pm, but we turned up around two and checked in then. Checkout is 12 on the day you are leaving. For a double room (which is what we had), it costs £129 pounds per night, which is expensive. We used my partners Hilton Honours points for the night's stay, so only had to pay for breakfast and the parking. Breakfast normally costs £14.95 each, but we had a couple of vouchers that cost £10 each for breakfast. Children eat free, but I could not find the age this goes up to on the internet (my son is only 19 months old). Another thing you may want to know is that the cost of internet access is £15 a night, which is extortionate in my view! As I said earlier, we went for the double room with sofa bed option. The room, surprisingly, was bigger than expected. With the sofa bed set up, we still had plenty of room to move around everything else and my son had plenty of room for mischief making! The main bed was a queen sized bed, and was fairly comfortable-it was on the firmer side of soft. The trouble for me was that the room was a bit too cold to not have the quilt on, but a bit too warm with the quilt on. As we were on the ground floor we didn't want to open the window (it isn't in a majorly built up area, but I'd rather be safe than sorry! There is also no air conditioning in the room, so you may be a bit too hot on a night time. The sofa bed itself is a decent size too-it isn't tiny-it is bigger than our double sofa bed at home. To me the mattress felt a bit hard when I sat on it, but we had a fairly uneventful night with my little cheeky monster so that is a plus. As well as the sofa bed, there is an internet connection (though far too expensive in my book), tea and coffee making facilities, en-suite bathroom, a desk, LCD TV with at least some freeview channels and a radio/alarm clock. We didn't use the restaurant for our evening meal and we didn't use the room service either, so I cannot comment on the quality of the food in that way. We did have breakfast, which I was quite impressed with. There was a full English spread which was really tasty and also included what looked like haggis. There was also fresh fruit, many breads and pastries, cereal, yoghurt, tea, coffee and fruit juice. It is also buffet service, so you can help yourself to as little or as much as you like. Whilst staying at the hotel, we did use the swimming pool a couple of times. It isn't huge, but there is enough space for sensible swimming and for having a bit of a mess about. The towels are provided for use, so you don't need to take the ones out of your room. There is also a gym there too. This is not huge either, but has the majority of the usual gym equipment. We didn't go into Leicester itself, so I can't really say anything on the city. Not far away from the hotel, there is Fosse Shopping Park with many shops like Boots and WHSmiths. There is also an extremely large Boarders book shop and several food outlets like MacDonald's and Pizza Hut. I have to say that all three of us enjoyed our night away. It was only one night and we didn't do an awful lot, but it is nice to have a change of scene every now and then. We thought that the room was comfortable and that the breakfast was really nice too. The only problem that had I personally was that I found the room was a bit too hot for the quit that was on the bed and there was no air conditioning in the room either. Other than that, I have to say I have no problems at all. Well recommended and worth a visit.
