Advantages: Different, great staff, nice location

Disadvantages: Not for those seeking a traditional hotel

Once upon a time in a distant life, myself and my hubby were childless and carefree, so we decided to book a romantic break away in the happening hotspot which is Brighton.
Having never really liked big name, chain hotels, we were excited to stumble across the website for Hotel Pelirocco.
Marketed as a pop, and contemporary culture inspired boudoir, the 19 room hotel seemed just cosy and cool enough for an inspired weekend away.
Situated in Regency Square, its location is good but not perfect. Its a short walk into town, but is overlooking the beach.
Each room is different and has a specific theme and we went for the Diana Dors room.
The hotel was small, dark and atmospheric and from a little cubby hole reception under the stairs, we were directed up a winding staircase which led us to our room.
Our first impression was that the room was tired and jaded and could do with a little tlc, however thats not a critisism as such, as it lent itself to an old movie star feel, created by photos of Diana Dors dotted amongst antique style furnishings.
The room was spacious and had a sea view and a big, opulent bed.
Vintage florals interspersed with gilt ornaments made us feel we had stepped into a glamourous period of time, which life had long forgotton.
Breakfast was served in the pink bar downstairs which had playstations (at the time) and a mouthwatering selection of cocktails available in the evenings.
The breakfast itself was generous and delicious and there were traditional and continental options available.
Yes the hotel could do with some work and yes our particular room was a bit tired, but that was part of the charm for us.
The Hotel Pelirocco is not perfectly presented or immaculate, but if you want that there are plenty of chain hotels in Brighton.
However if you are looking for something a little different, a little quirky and with bags of originality, head here.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, but with a baby in tow these days, it could be some time before we return...

Summary: Perfect for a contemporary break
